Downtown Durham

Downtown durham is a place with many restaurants, cafes, museums and bars to enjoy. This is the city that Savannah grew up in! The city center of downtown durham is a quick 8 minute drive, although traveling to these locations would not be walkable.



Our recommendations are below, but everything is lovely!



Beyu Cafe - A great quick bite and coffee for breakfast



The Parlor - Matthew and Savannah stopped by this ice cream place, and loved it!



Pie Pushers - A great spot to grab a pizza for lunch.



Mateo Bar De Tapas - A perfect spot for lunch or dinner.



Nana Steak - One of Savannah and Matthews favorite restaurants in Durham. A great spot to grab a cocktail or have a more elegant dinner.



Boxcar Arcade and Games - This bar is a super fun place to play arcade games and they have a great outdoor space with large connect 4 and Jenga!



Bull McCabes Irish Bar - This outside / inside irish pub is a great place to grab a beer and hang out.



Pour Taproom - They have a full wall of draft beers and wines, try as many as you want! They also have great bar food and snacks.



The Unscripted Hotels Rooftop - Savannah and Matthew celebrated Savannahs birthday at this rooftop. Very fun and modern vibes.



The Durham Hotels Rooftop - A very elegant rooftop in downtown durham. A great spot to grab a cocktail and enjoy the view.

The Morning Times - A great coffee shop, great for grabbing a quick bite!



Morgan Street Food Hall - All of Raleighs best restaurants in one great food hall.



42nd St. Oyster Bar - This was Savannah’s grandmothers favorite restaurant, and it has the best Oysters in North Carolina :)



Taverna Agora - A perfect greek restaurant with a very pretty rooftop. You have to try the lemon cake!



Wye Hill Brewing - A great bar and you are able to have the best view of the Raleigh skyline.

Durham Food Hall

Durham Food Hall, is a great spot to gather for a meal. It’s in Liberty Warehouse, right across the street from Durham Farmers Market and Durham Central Park. Everyone can choose from a different restaurant and then eat together in the communal space.

Nasher Museum of Art

The Nasher Museum of Art at Duke University owns more than 10,000 works of art which are displayed in rotating installations.


It will be a quick 4 minute drive, or a scenic 25-30 minute walk.

Savannah and Matthew remember a lovely day in July where they spent a date exploring duke gardens.


The Sarah P. Duke Gardens consist of approximately 55 acres of landscaped and wooded areas at Duke University located in Durham, North Carolina. There are 5 miles of allées, walks, and pathways throughout the gardens.


Duke Gardens will be a quick 4 minute drive, or a science 25-30 minute walk from Washington Duke Inn.

Museum of Life and Science

The Museum of Life and Science is a great place to bring the kiddos!


The Museum has an Aerospace Exhibit, Butterfly House, Wildlife Exhibit, a Dinosaur Trial and plenty more things to explore!

Hours

The Chapel is open to the public daily from 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. All are welcome in the sanctuary during these hours for reflection, prayer, or meditation, as well as to view the building’s soaring Gothic architecture and vibrant stained-glass windows. Please enter the through the double wooden doors at the front of the Chapel or the ADA ramp, which is on the right side of the Chapel as you face the building from the front. Note: The Chapel is occasionally closed to the public for special events, so please check our calendar before coming for a visit.
