From the beginning, the couple had a plan for a time frame of when to wed. In the year of 2022, Brandon informed Schaefer that he would propose any time from January 1 - December 31, 2023 (by 11:59pm). Brandon always gets what Schaefer asks for on Christmas. In the Christmas season of 2023, after waiting all year, Schaefer asked to no longer wait! After opening presents, Schaefer found no ring. However, to her dismay, gifts were not completed just yet. Later that Christmas day, Brandon informed Schaefer that he had hidden the rings (yes, rings!) around the house for a game of "hide and seek"... in typical Brandon fashion. Schaefer spent the next several hours searching everywhere in their home for the rings. All she could find were two empty ring boxes. After feeling discouraged, she enlisted Brandon's son, Alias, to help her search for the rings. Alias assisted with the search to find the rings with no luck. Schaefer had finally given up as the time got later into the evening. After coming back inside from taking care of her dogs, Schaefer was surprised. Alias had the rings in his pocket the whole time. Brandon hugged Schaefer and asked her to marry him. "About time" was her response.

A note from Schaefer: "What made the proposal so special is not only that Brandon hid the rings and used his personality for the proposal. But, that Alias played a big part in it as well. I am not only marrying the love of my life. I am also being blessed with the greatest gift. Being a bonus mom to the world's most amazing kid."
