Things to Do

We’re so excited to welcome you to the little island we call home! Mount Desert Island is filled with amazing restaurants and endless outdoor adventures. Here are some of our favorite spots to eat, hike, and explore.

The Claremont Hotel

This is Katie's favorite spot to enjoy a drink, relax on the porch, and watch the sunset.

We adore this hidden gem of a restaurant in Southwest Harbor. It’s a bit off the beaten path, making it less touristy and often with shorter wait times during the summer. Their small plates menu is fantastic!

Beal's Lobster Pier

If you’re looking to enjoy some Maine lobster during your visit, we highly recommend Beal’s Lobster Pound. You can savor your lobster while sitting by the water or grab it to go for a perfect seaside picnic!

Lompoc Cafe

If you’re in town for a Friday night dance party, we highly recommend Lompoc in Bar Harbor—it’s our favorite spot! We’ve had so many unforgettable nights there and think you’ll love it too.

Sweet Pea's Farm Kitchen

Sweet Pea is one of our favorite restaurants, offering a fantastic farm-to-table menu and a lovely outdoor dining space.

St. Sauveur

The well-marked "Acadia Mountain" trailhead and roadside parking lot are located along Route 102 across from Echo Lake. Cross the road to find the standard trailhead marker. This trailhead serves as the starting point for both the Acadia Mountain Trail and the St. Sauveur Mountain Trail.

This hike holds a special place in our hearts because it’s where Sean proposed to Katie. It’s a bit longer but rewards you with stunning views of Somes Sound.

Flying Mountain Trailhead

96 Fernald Point Rd, Southwest Harbor, ME 04679, USA

This short and easy hike offers incredible views for minimal effort—a great bang for your buck! After the hike, you can take a refreshing dip in Valley Cove if you’re brave enough to face the chilly water.
