Know Before You Go

Phone Plans

We recommend contacting your cellphone provider and inquiring about their international daily roaming charges. If you have Verizon they charge $10.00 USD per day. Otherwise, depending on your phone you are able to get e-sim card. We recommend the following providers: (1) AIRALO (2) Vodafone Please consult their website and ensure the prices are to your liking when deciding between your cellphone provider and an e-sim option.

Money

If you intend to bring cash, we recommend ordering euros through your bank before you leave. Please keep in mind that ordering euros from your bank may take some time so please plan accordingly. In our experience we have found the exchange rates in Europe to be at a disadvantage to the USD to Euro conversion in addition to fees. In our experience, we have found most merchants accept Visa and Mastercard, with limited success utilizing AMEX. We recommend if you are an AMEX holder bring a VISA alongside.

Melia Braga Hotel

Please ensure that you have settled your payment directly with the hotel via email by the date outlined in your confirmation email. Please note for many this is April 15th. Some payment links may have gone stale so we recommend checking sooner rather than later to ensure your room is not canceled. If your link has expired please reach out for a new one.

The buses come every 15 minutes and we recommend booking this in advance. The Braga Station to Melia Braga Hotel is a 4-minute drive ranging from $7-10 euros through Uber or Taxi. Finally, if you plan to rent a car, driving in Portugal is very similar to the US! We used our phone (Apple Maps or Google Maps) to navigate through the country easily. Once you arrive at OPO there will be shuttles right as you exit that will take you to your specific rental car company. Please pay attention to the pickup signs to ensure you are on the right shuttle.
