Seth and Serena’s story started all the way back in 2014 when Seth was a sophomore in high school and Serena was a junior. They met in choir class and got to know each other while performing in show choir and musicals, but they didn’t officially start dating until July 2, 2015. While in high school they spent a lot of time together in the choir room and theater since the show choir season went from September to March. When summer rolled around, Serena would visit Seth at his family farm and help him with chores and help get his steer ready for the county fair. There was even one weekend where Serena fed, washed and blow-dried his show steer all by herself while Seth and his family were up north for the 4th of July!
Serena’s senior year went by fast and it was time for her to go off to college at MSOE (Milwaukee School of Engineering). They decided to stay together, but they did not want to force the relationship, so if it wasn’t working, they would break up. They made it through Serena’s first year of college without any issues and now it was Seth’s turn to go to college. He chose to go to UW-Platteville, so they’d be even further apart than they were before. Again, they decided to stay in a relationship and see how things went. MSOE was on a trimester system so in between each trimester Serena would get a weeklong break. On those breaks she would usually visit Seth down in Platteville and party it up and get a taste of what a normal college was like. They both supported each other while pursuing their different college educations and with all that support and encouragement their relationship made it all the way through college, and they ended up graduating in 2021 one week apart from each other. Seth received his Bachelor’s degrees in Agricultural Business and Animal Science and Serena received her Bachelor’s degree in Architectural Engineering and her Master’s degree in Structural Engineering.
Since graduating from college, Seth and Serena have kept themselves busy with attending the weddings of their friends, farming and spending time with family and friends. During the winter they love to go snowmobiling when Mother Nature cooperates and gives them some snow and, in the summer, they enjoy kayaking, trap shooting with Serena’s family, and attending fire department picnics. They have an annual kayak trip with all their friends that takes place on 4th of July weekend. Last year they had 28 people on the trip! It was quite a sight seeing that many people on kayaks heading down the river. As much as Seth and Serena love to hang out with all their friends, they also enjoy spending time with each other and finding new spots to eat or drink or even traveling around the state to look at show steers or lambs.
April 30, 2023, is when Seth finally decided to pop the question. It was a Sunday morning, and they went to church together. Afterwards, they were going to Crossroads to meet up with some family friends, but before going there Seth told Serena they had to stop at the farm first and check on one of the calves that was born the other day. Serena didn’t object because she loves baby cows. They went into the barn and Seth was trying to grab one of the calves while Serena wasn’t paying attention. He brought the calf over to Serena and got down on one knee. On the ear tag of the calf Seth had written out “Will you marry me?” Serena was completely caught off guard and instantly started crying, but she of course said “yes!” Seth told both their parents that he had a ring but didn’t tell either set of parents that he was asking her that day, so they spent the rest of the day driving around and surprising all their family with the great news! Since that day they’ve been busy planning the wedding, farming, hanging out with friends, going on family vacations and moving into their condo they bought together in Kewaskum. Seth and Serena truly bring out the best in each other and can count on one another for anything. They are both very supportive of each other and their goals in life. They can’t wait to continue going on adventures and making more memories together and seeing where married life takes them. Seth and Serena are very excited to finally be getting married on November 2, 2024, and are looking forward to celebrating with all their friends and family on their special day!
