Our Big Day

Our Wedding

It all started at a college house party at Sam Houston State University. While most people were mingling and dancing, Santi was doing what any life-of-the-party would do—sitting alone, playing video games. I spotted him across the room, looking completely uninterested in the chaos around him, and decided to join him. We bonded over awkward small talk. He laughed politely at my jokes (even though they weren’t that funny), and when he gave me the most adorably awkward goodbye wave at the end of the night… I knew I was a goner. Our first date (which Santi didn’t realize was a date until his friends told him) was a movie night to see Sing! and dinner at his beloved Potato Shack. From there, it was late-night study sessions at Newton Gresham Library, ultimate frisbee games at Pritchett Field, and countless meals eaten off the tailgate of his red Chevy Colorado. Falling in love was easy—it felt like the most natural thing in the world. Life threw us a few curveballs after graduation. Santi went off to basic training in Missouri, and I stayed behind to care for my nephew. A year apart was hard, but somehow, we made it through. Then, just as Santi started applying to every agency under the sun… COVID hit. But by the grace of God (and a very well-timed job opening), Travis County hired him as a corrections officer. We packed up our lives and moved to Austin in the middle of a global pandemic. Since then, Austin has become our home. I went back to teaching and eventually moved into campus leadership, while Santi worked his way into a sheriff's deputy role—living out his dream one call at a time. Our days now are filled with good food, too much reality TV, and spontaneous plane rides (usually in the direction of a baseball stadium). In Spring 2024, during a trip to Florida, Santi proposed at sunset on Venice Beach. It was quiet, sweet, a little sandy—and absolutely perfect. Now, here we are, getting ready to celebrate our next big adventure together. We can't wait to share it with you!
