Italy Tips & Tricks

1. If you plan on renting a car (which is highly recommended, at least for the days surrounding wedding festivities), you have to apply for an international driver's permit. I would have this done at least 3 weeks before your trip. You will need this, your passport and a credit card when picking up a rental car.

2. You will need outlet adapters. Click here for a 3-pack on Amazon.

3. Credit cards are being accepted at more and more places in Italy. You can always ask to pay in CC no matter where you are, but having cash in your pocket just in case is a good idea, especially for things like a quick gelato or a bottle of water. Not all taxis take credit cards, but most now do. (Tipping note - if you pay with a CC at a restaurant, there is no “tipping” line on the receipt. You would need EUR cash to tip.)

4. If you have one of the major phone providers (AT&T, Verizon, T-Mobile) you are almost certainly set and ready for travel without the need to notify them in advance. You simply land, turn your phone on, then will receive a text outlining the terms of your travel service. You only pay each day you use the services. Otherwise you can turn your phone into airplane mode and utilize Wifi when you are at your hotels/accommodations.

5. Highway tolls take EUR cash or credit card.

6. Bringing a portable charger is super helpful.
