Our Story

Seyi & Emily – As Told by Beth and Kim(edits from Emily)

Once upon a time, there was a very tall, very fair(oyibo!) girl with long, flowing blonde hair.
One day, she dramatically announced to her sister that her dating days were over. Kaput. Finished. There was simply no one worth finding—certainly not the tall, dark, and handsome man she had once dreamed of. That was a silly fantasy, and she was far too practical for that nonsense.
She was prepared to live her life dreamlessly.
…Meanwhile…
In a land far, far away (okay, maybe just across the city), lived a very tall, very dark and ridiculously handsome boy. He prayed that the Lord would guide his future and, perhaps—just maybe—send him a very tall, very fair girl with long, flowing blonde hair.
And so begins a love story.
Emily and Seyi met in the grand metropolis of Edmonton, Alberta, just a few days into a brand-new year. He took her coat… and she took his heart.
They bonded over a feast of Nigerian cuisine, which Emily devoured without cutlery, fully embracing the experience—juices dripping from her hands (actually down to her elbows), a delighted smile on her face. The food was excellent, but the company? Even better.
Cue date two: skating.
To any bystander, it probably looked like a tragic comedy. Seyi, despite Emily’s best efforts, could not stay on his feet. But perhaps it was all part of fate’s design—because every time he tumbled, he got a better view of how impossibly adorable she was. (And, let’s be honest… she really was.)
Their summer dating montage played out like something from a movie:
Long walks. Laughter. Ridiculously silly drawings of each other. Evenings on the porch. Dancing in the kitchen. Scary movies (which Seyi actually watched, while Emily kept her eyes shut). Library dates. Bible studies. And many, many more adventures.
As days turned to weeks and weeks to months, one thing became clear—there was no future without each other.
Then, on November 10, 2024, in the heart of the breathtaking Edmonton River Valley, Seyi got down on one knee and asked Emily to be his forever. She joyously said yes, and they celebrated the only way they knew how—by dancing.
Now, they look forward to dancing and celebrating with all of their loved ones as they begin the next chapter of their greatest adventure yet.

Since we are receiving a Kingdom that is unshakable, let us be thankful and please God by worshiping him with holy fear and awe.
