If you arrive a day or two before the wedding, the Detroit Zoo is a great place to check out! It's a great size that isn't too small or big and something you can definitely spend as much time as you want there. The hours they are open in October are from 10am - 4pm.

If you want something that is a little closer to the venue/hotel, downtown Brighton is a fun place to walk around, eat, and shop!

If you want to experience a great Detroit treasure, the DIA is a wonderful art museum to see. They have many exhibits and a must see court room filled with Diego Rivera frescos.
