A Snowstorm, a Kitchen Sink Cookie and a Book from 1611!

While visiting family in Indiana for the Frazier Christmas, Shane received word that a winter snowstorm was approaching quickly. Because of this, the gathering was moved up, and he decided to leave a day early to avoid getting stuck. Several inches of snow had already fallen as he made his way south.

Along the drive, he chose to surprise a pastor friend in Harvest, Alabama by stopping in for a visit at his church. Afterward, before getting back on the road, Shane decided to use a gift card to grab lunch and his favorite treat, the Kitchen Sink Cookie from Panera Bread.

While standing in line, he noticed a woman reading one of his favorite books, The Hedge of Thorns. Written in 1611, it was a book he had even taught from at two different churches. He could not believe someone else was reading it.

Then he realized it was not only someone reading it, but a beautiful blonde wearing a “Love God, Love People” sweatshirt.

Shane felt both nervous and excited. Captivated by her beauty, he gathered the courage to ask her about the book. He later said that the moment their eyes met, he lost the ability to communicate clearly. After stumbling through his words, she invited him to sit down so he could explain why he loved the book so much.

Two and a half hours passed.

Eventually, Shane knew he needed to get back on the road. They exchanged numbers, and what followed is not only history, but the beginning of a love story that continues to grow stronger with each passing day.

What Shane and Kristyn have found is something unique, steady, healthy, and full of hope. Gratitude marks where their story has been, and even greater anticipation marks where God is leading them next.
