Our Story

Jarom and Shannel met through their friend, Iese. Iese is Jarom's roommate and Shannel's trainer as a tour guide in the Polynesian Cultural Center. He thought it would be a good idea to set up a date for these two since they are both from the same country.

Jarom barely goes to club activities while Shannel is serving as the VP for the Filipino Club. That night, Jarom was inspired to go to a Returned Missionary Devotional with his friend to have fun and reminisce his mission experiences. They were both surprised to see each other in that event. After the activity, he awkwardly said "Hi" to her followed by a friend request on Facebook. The following day, Shannel initiated to leave a thank you message for saying "Hi" to her.

When you don’t have a car in Laie and you’re asking someone out on a date then Seven brothers is a staple place for you. Lol. Their first date wasn’t just simply exchanging shallow questions but conversations that reveal who they truly are; what they value most in life, what their goals are and how their past experiences have shaped them.

Their first date wasn’t just simply exchanging shallow questions but conversations that reveal who they truly are; what they value most in life, what their goals are and how their past experiences have shaped them.
Since the temple at that time only allowed online sign-ups with limited spots, Jarom did not get to sign up; however, knowing that he wanted to go to the temple and see her that day, they thought it was a miracle to show up in person and get a spot because one person did not show up. What a lovely first Temple date they had.

Luckily, He found an offer on campus in the same place where he was working at as a student. Luckily, He found an offer on campus in the same place where he was working at as a student. They both felt like God has played a huge role in helping them both stay together to get to know each other better.

Since they started discussing marriage, Shannel often tells him that she has a strong sense of discernment through observation and feelings. In other words, she would know when he was about to pull the “marry me” card. He realized that he should step up the game and catch her off guard. After a few weeks of contemplating what ring he should buy and where, when, & how he should do it, the thought of involving her friends in his plans helped make the scene perfect. All his anxieties about thinking he may get caught texting her friends secretly and making up stories turned into one of the happiest days of his life.
