On June 10, 2023, Dwight and I unexpectedly reunited at a funeral for someone from our small hometown of Jesup, Georgia. We had grown up together and attended the same high school. While we never dated, I suspect there was a secret crush lingering beneath the surface. After exchanging small talk, sharing a warm hug, and offering casual compliments, I made it clear that I was single as we parted ways. The rest of the day was spent wondering if he recognized my flirtation or simply interpreted it as friendly kindness.
Love manifests in various forms; sometimes it arrives gently, allowing you to dip your toes in before taking the plunge. After experiencing a relationship that felt like a tidal wave, I realized I was blessed with the gift of true love. I understand that everyone’s journey is unique, and for some, love takes years to develop. In my case, it took just a few months. After my divorce, I struggled with the idea of loving again, but meeting Dwight changed everything. There was an immediate connection between us.
Through countless dates and deep conversations, we explored everything from our childhoods to our differing perspectives on family and relationships. It felt as though we could read each others minds. Dwight fell for me first, and soon after, I found myself falling even harder. We discussed tough topics and how we could support each other, filling in the gaps where needed, and pushing one another toward our best selves. It was as if I had found my soulmate, and I never believed in such a thing until August 3, 2024, when Dwight asked me to be his partner for life. We eagerly await our wedding day.
We pray that our relationship serves as a testament to God’s goodness and grace. We strive to treat each other with kindness, respect, and forgiveness, even during challenging times. May the love we share radiate to our children, family, church, friends, and all those around us.
John 13:34: “A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another: just as I have loved you, you also are to love one another.”
