Our Story

If you ask Shannon:

I had just moved to San Antonio and started my Urology residency at UT Health. I was a lonely Colorado girl, trying desperately to find my place in Texas. One of my first friends here, Lynsey, organized an evening out in an effort to set me up. She told me all about the guy- kind, sweet, smart, funny. Plot twist… she wasn’t talking about Cuatro. AJ was all of those things (We love you AJ!), but when he got up to use the restroom, Cuatro stole his seat and he never gave it back. He used his Texas charm and by the end of the night had somehow gotten my number and very confidently told me we’d be going out later that week. He was right. Fast forward a few months, I was determined to get a dog despite everyone’s warnings given my demanding schedule in residency. But not Cuatro, he supported me. In fact, he drove me hours to get Nala. Then, when my Venmo wouldn’t work, he bought Nala (don’t worry I paid him back). When I was at work or on call, which was a lot of the time, Cuatro was there. He raised Nala, together with Pato, as if she was his own. How could I not love him? I feel so grateful to have found my Texas cowboy, and the best dog dad around. I cannot wait to continue to build this life together.

If you ask Cuatro:

I was on my way home from a hunting trip when Mac called to invite me out for a drink. I was exhausted, but easily peer pressured into grabbing a beer. I had no idea what I was about to walk into. As soon as I saw Shannon, I knew I had to talk to her. AJ got up from his chair next to her to use the restroom, and I swooped (Sorry man!). I stole his seat and the rest is history. A few months later, when Shannon decided to get a dog, I did warn her it might not be the best decision, but I supported her. I took the day off work and drove her 4 hours to get Nala. I wouldn’t let her back out when she got cold feet 2 minutes away from pulling up to the breeder. I also paid for Nala when her Venmo wouldn’t work (so yes, she technically is my dog). We are both dog lovers and really think that bonding through Nala and Pato had a significant impact on bringing us together. I am grateful for the life we have built together and cannot wait for all that is to come!
