About Venue 404

Our reception will be taking place at Venue 404, a very beautiful and historic building in Oshkosh! It has a fascinating history, so we wanted to share some of that with you!

Venue 404 in Oshkosh is a unique special event venue with a plethora of history and intriguing cultural interest. The event hall is located in the lobby of the First National Bank in Oshkosh, an eight story building built by Hoggson Bros. of New York City and C.R. Meyer and Sons of Oshkosh, and opened in April of 1927.

The main lobby of the building where the reception and dinner will be held features wonderful marble walls, elegant chandeliers and unique brass doors and fixtures. While it’s certainly been a while since the building last housed an operational bank, many features can still be found throughout, including numerous vault doors, and original marble countertops repurposed for the bar.

The facade outside features unusual bas-relief medallions that reproduce the designs from the Standing Liberty quarter-dollar and Walking Liberty half-dollar designs of the early twentieth century. This was, in fact, the third building constructed on this site at a cost of $550,000, an equivalent to nearly $10 Million today. The vaults were state-of-the-art for the Thirties, and supposedly robbery-proof.

The building (as well as much of the Main Street area) was featured in the 2009 blockbuster hit Public Enemies, starring Johnny Depp, Christian Bale and James Russo. The characteristics of this building made it the perfect location to have a 1920’s theme shoot.

Throughout the venue, you can find numerous photos and memorabilia from the filming of Public Enemies, as well as the Vault Speakeasy, a bar and lounge located on the lower level within the original main bank vault, that will be open during the reception.
