Our Wedding

Sarp was born in Ankara Türkiye and moved to Connecticut in the early 2000s with his incredible family, his Mom Sebu, Dad Yigit and his Sister Ceylan. I (Shannon) was born outside of Toronto Canada and moved to Houston Texas in 1998 with my incredible parents Dee and Greg. Sarp decided to leave the CT winters and moved South to Houston in 2018.. The same year Shannon graduated from LSU and moved back to Texas.

The Prequel 

Sarp and I met at work in 2018 working for a recruitment company, Michael Page. I can still remember my first impression of Sarp, I remember thinking "who is the hot IT guy with the motorcycle helmet on his desk?!". Through shared workplace trauma, a broken collarbone then shoulder surgery and many other memories our friendship blossomed into a relationship. Sarp met the parents in January of 2019 as "just a friend" helping me move into my Houston apartment, he is still very proud of himself for how he parallel parked the U-Haul. While Michael Page may not have been our dream job (very far from it lol), it gave us each other, along with lifelong friendships and unforgettable moments.

The Beginning 

We adopted Porter in March of 2019 and my first born Cashew approved of P instantly (though Cash is still making his mind up about this Sarp guy). We moved in together in 2020 right before the pandemic, we survived lockdown and moved in to our very own home sweet home in July of 2021. We have explored 4 continents together, traveled to dozens of cities, listened to hours of live music, driven thousands of miles and have had the best adventures over the last 6 years.

The Middle

We decided to take the road trip of a lifetime in May of last year. We left Conroe with our rental RV in tow bound for the mountains. Our journey took us through Texas, Oklahoma, Colorado, Wyoming, Montana, Utah, and New Mexico then Home again. Mr. Ballar put in a measly 89 hours of driving. May 21st 2024 we were in Jackson Hole Wyoming, in Bridger Teton National Park. We spent the morning exploring, and I can honestly say it’s the most beautiful place I’ve ever been. We pulled off so Sarp could "play with his drone" and I did not think anything of it. He called Porter and me over, and again, I thought nothing of it—until he posed for a picture, put his arm around me, and I felt his heart pounding out of his chest. Then, he got down on one knee. Technically Porter said yes first and it couldn’t have been more perfect.

The Proposal 

We feel so immensely blessed to have the life we have and can not wait for all that is ahead. We truly have the most incredible support system and we can not wait to celebrate with you all in January. Cheers to The Rest!
