Our Wedding

Shannon and I first met at a mutual friend's 21st birthday party towards the end of Summer 2013 when we were both working at Dick's Sporting Goods. We spent most of the night talking in a group, and I thought I had made a good impression when I received a Facebook message from Shannon the next day. Ultimately, she had messaged me about trading shifts for later that week. As one thing led to another, Shannon and I continued talking and eventually spending more time together until we finally decided to make our relationship "Facebook official." After living hours apart from each other for several years, we moved into our first apartment together just outside of Milwaukee, WI. We adopted our favorite little pup, Willa, and enjoyed living in Wisconsin for about 16 months before Shannon accepted a position in Colorado. We gladly packed our bags to exchange cornfields for mountains and spend the next chapter of our lives out west! On December 7th, 2020, we drove up to Boulder, CO, and met my cousin, Brittany, for a short hike outside of town. Despite telling Shannon that her nails did not look good and making her get a manicure at 9am before we left for the hike, Shannon had zero ideas as to what was in store later that day.After getting slightly off-trail (and watching Shannon get visibly annoyed about having to hike uphill more than we would have had to), we finally found the perfect spot where the trees opened up to a great view of the Rocky Mountains where I asked Shannon to marry me. We later celebrated further down the road at Realization Point, where, in true Cody fashion, I accidentally popped a bottle of champagne all over Shannon.

There are some hikes at Red Rocks in addition to concerts and other events! If you're just stopping by to check out the amphitheater, we suggest going earlier in the day as they "close" early to set up for concerts.

There are a handful of hikes near Lookout Mountain varying in length and difficulty. This is also a short 5-minute drive from our venue and can be accessed through I-70 from Denver or Lookout Mountain Road from Golden. Be sure to stop by Buffalo Bill's Grave and gift shop at the top!

Downtown Golden’s first and only rooftop patio and bar which includes a second self-pour wall of 16-taps including local beers, wines and cocktails.

"Located a short distance from Idaho Springs, Colorado, this short hike to St. Mary’s Glacier offers spectacular views and the chance to visit a beautiful alpine lake and glacier. This is a great option for day trips year-round, as the snow covered landscape during the winter makes for some amazing views at the top. Set out along the St. Mary’s Trail and after about a half mile you’ll arrive at the lake. This gorgeous lake is a great resting point and offers fantastic views. The trail continues to the glacier, where the obvious route disappears and you’ll need to find your own path. You can turn around whenever you choose, or you can extend your hike to James Peak and into the wilderness area. To get to the trailhead, take exit 238 and follow Fall River Rd to the parking lot. Please note that there is a $5 parking fee to park in the parking lot. Please do not park along the side of the road as local law enforcement will hand out parking tickets." St Mary's Glacier

Train ride through the Rockies where you can order food and drinks on the train. The train ride lasts roughly two hours and is about 1.5 hours south of Denver.

Royal Gorge Route Railroad

A cool way to check out an inside view of the Rocky Mountains! About an hour west of Denver, the Georgetown Loop Railroad is roughly an hour-long ride that takes you from the Georgetown station to the Silver Plume station and back. It is a very kid-friendly experience.

Things to Do

I am Shannon's sister-in-law. My favorite memory of us is taking bus trips to Cubs games. One word I would use to describe Cody would be easy going!

How do you know the groom?
Not really sure to be honest.  Somehow we always ended up taking the same blow-off elective classes in high school and 20 years later here we are.

What is your favorite memory with the groom?
While in high school we coached a middle school park district soccer team with Cody as my ASSISTANT coach.  Our teams always cleaned up and I like to think we impressed a culture of winning on those kids that they still carry forward to this day.  What our players lacked in skill, we made up with tactical brilliance and our elaborate set piece "Appletini" which could not be stopped and was always fun to yell at middle school kids at 8 AM in front of their parents.

What is one word to describe the bride? Patient

I met Shannon at Kaitlyn's Bachelorette party and we clicked as best friends right away! My favorite memory with Shannon is when we went to Madison for the Taste of Madison. It down-poured on our way back to the car, we were soaking wet and had to change into clothes that she was going to donate and never got around to. We both for some reason picked pajamas to change into from all the clothes she had. We got hungry on the way home and stopped at Culvers, completely drenched and wearing pajamas. We definitely got a ton of looks but it was pretty funny! One word I would use to describe Cody would be athletic!

How do you know the groom?

We’re cousins.



What is your favorite memory with the groom?


One time in high school Cody and I decided to tell everyone we’re cousins. We are not cousins. But for some reason people actually believed it, very quickly and basically without question. All we had to do was tell them our grandmas are sisters and they bought it. We even pulled out the old prank again at a party a couple years ago where we didn’t really know anyone. Sure enough, everyone there assumed we wouldn’t invent such a dumb lie and believed us. Cody and I met after I moved to Byron when I was 10, but we have a picture of the two of us from at least a few years before then. Neither of us remember why we have the picture or when it was taken, but I like to think that it was the inspiration for this elaborate prank we have held onto for far too long.



What is one word to describe the bride?

Brendan Walters

I have known Shannon since kindergarten when we were in Girl Scouts together and became close in middle school. We were constantly hanging out, watching scary movies, playing games and scrapbooking. We've had a lot of great memories! My favorite is probably running around as super heroes with towels tied to our backs. Don't ask us how old we were! The best days of Super Shannon and Nifty Nicole! One word I would pick to describe Cody would be genuine.

I first met Cody freshmen year of college where we connected over our hatred for the Packers and our love of How I Met Your Mother. Technically Cody and I have been friends for 10 years but our bond of specialness really transcends time and space so I don’t think you can put a number on it. 
My favorite memory with Cody is watching the Vikings play the Seahawks in the wildcard game in 2016. Even though Blair Walsh missed the game-winning field goal, (damn!), not many people can say that have been to an outdoor NFL game in Minnesota in the winter so that was a pretty special trip. Honorable mention memory is when Cody ate 21 pieces of sushi at the Chinese buffet in Aurora on his 21st birthday and then went to track practice. 
If I had to describe Shannon in one word I would choose the word "tolerant" because of the many different immature or corny jokes she has to put up with from Cody. 

Nick Cole

Shannon and I have known each other since kindergarten. One of our favorite memories was from back in the day. The evening started out like every other Shannon and Kim sleepover. However, things took a turn when Shannon found a mullet wig in my closet. Somehow this escalated to a full on karaoke dance party of two.  *There may be some very embarrassing video evidence*. One word I would use to describe Cody would be quirky!

How do you know the Groom?
Cody and I were teammates, and eventually became roommates during our time at Aurora University while competing for the Track and Field team.                                              What is your favorite memory with the groom?
Not really a memory but, moreso the experience of having Cody as a friend:
Cody is the guy you want to have in your corner. He is always pushing you to be better, to find better for yourself. Even though he gets the point across with a slight (or not so slight) roast, you can always tell that all he wants is the best for the people around him. 
What is one word to describe the bride? 
Tolerant

Loren Iwanicki

I first knew Shannon as a cross town rival and then we became teammates in high school and then friends! The best memories I have are the simple ones, car karaoke (blasting Drake - Take Care), Chili's and discussing the pope's religion. I would describe Cody as caring (but also quiet). But maybe it is just me since I have only met him once!

Rhiannon Ohnstad

I met Cody when I was on a college visit to AU and he drove a group of us to McDonald's and made really lame jokes the whole time that I thought were funny. 
My sophomore year I was bumming couch space at his place after getting kicked out of my dorm and one day when he got home from the library he asked if I knew why the snow at the base of the trees was less deep than other places. I don't remember what the answer was, but I remember thinking that even though Cody tries to put on an apathetic, cool guy front, he's actually an abservant and thoughtful person. 
One word to describe Shannon is "caretaker" because she takes care of Cody every time he gets way too drunk :)

I first met Shannon when my brother brought her home for Christmas! My favorite memory is any that involves Cody, Shannon, and Willa, obviously. One word I would use to describe my brother would be considerate, but also annoying!

How do you know the groom? 
It was a crisp fall evening. I was a young, 5 star recruit straight outta JUCO attending an Aurora University cross country/ track and field party. I notice out of the distance a Mexican.. no white? … Asian? fellow that I haven’t met before. With a cold beer in his left hand and a warm, greeting handshake from his right hand, a Cody McSorley in his prime says “sup?”
What is your favorite memory with the groom? 
Completing my first Colorado 14er/conquering death on Mt Elbert and then camping in a sketchy, rustic campground during our western states road trip in the summer of 2018. We listened to the home run derby in the car while eating Nutella and bread, probably because it was the only thing we had.
One word to describe the bride? Convivial!
