An unconventional love story…no knight in shining armor saving the distressed princess from the evil queen. Not even a rainy night where Shannon was trying to hail a cab where she and Brian end up in the same cab, tired and wet from a long day but are awestruck with one another and can’t help but hit it off. Nope…Shannon and Brian met in passing at work. He wanted to know “who is that nurse in the glasses with the beautiful hair?” Not much interaction after that except months later, a Facebook message. One morning, standing in her kitchen, Shannon casually responded to his message. It was during a particularly rough time in her life and she unknowingly responded to a message that would turn into a lifetime. Almost prophetically, Brian spoke words of encouragement saying hard times don’t last always and if she wanted she could call him. With a heavy heart she dialed the number he’d left in the message. At the end of their short conversation, Brian asked “Can I pray for you?” This took Shannon by surprise but also pulled at her heart. “Who is this man who wants to pray for me? He could actually be a person I want in my life, especially as a friend”. The months that followed were spent getting to know each other, walks at the park, Brian encouraging Shannon out of her depression and always…prayer. Brian, being a man who knows what he wants, had his heart set on Shannon. Together, they built a foundation of a friendship that weathered the tests of life. It was no surprise that they fell in love with one another. Having the relationship they both had prayed for. Their kids and families were happy for their newfound happiness. During December 2021, Shannon fell ill with Covid. Brian did not leave her side. He took care of her every need and kept her family up to date on how she was doing. On New Year’s Eve at midnight, while stating what they were thankful for and looking forward to in the new year, Brian dropped to one knee. He’d had plans to propose with family around, everyone dressed, and placed nicely for the proposal. Covid changed his plans but didn’t deter them. He still felt this was a perfect time. Spending the time alone with Shannon at her lowest point, hair wild, nose red from being sick, and old clothes on didn’t change the love they had built. He still wanted to marry her, “now more than ever”. He still felt she was beautiful and this only made his love grow stronger. With the new year dawning came a new beginning for Brian and Shannon. #TwoHeartsOneKelly is built on the verse of Mark 10:8 “And the two shall become one flesh so that they are no longer two, but one flesh.”
