They met in Mrs. Banks Pre-calculus class at Duluth High School one day in August of 2019. Shanté was in her junior year and Corey was a senior. Prior to officially meeting, they shared the same friends and participated on the same track and field team without noticing one another.
Corey grew a liking to Shanté and began teasing her before using one of his friends to “make his move” on a piece of paper that said: “I’m feeling you, are you feeling me? YES or NO” with tick boxes. His friend gave that paper to Shanté at the end of class one day, but she did not open it until she got home. She thought it was funny and was getting ready to throw the paper in the trash when she received her first FaceTime call from Corey.
Confused by an unsaved number, she wondered who could be FaceTiming her and answered. Little did she know that this would be the first call of many more to come. They continued getting to know each other throughout the next few months but lost touch when Covid came around.
Corey moved to Virginia for college and Shanté began her senior year. She decided to move on with her life and look towards starting college, but Corey couldn’t keep Shanté off of his mind. He tried calling and texting her, but she had him blocked, so he used their mutual friend as a way of keeping tabs on her, always asking about her to see if she would come around.
One day in March of 2021, Shanté messaged Corey on Snapchat with a very lighthearted comment on his story; this rekindled their friendship. In May of 2021, shortly after Shanté graduated high school, they made it official and have been inseparable ever since.
