Travel Planning Timeline

TRAVEL PLANNING TIMELINE

The following timeline is a suggested guideline for when to start organising your travel plans leading up to the wedding day. You may wish to alter this based on your own individual circumstances.

6-12 MONTHS IN ADVANCE

Start searching for flights. If you are on a budget, use websites such as ‘Skyscanner’ to compare the different airlines and find the most affordable. Alternatively, keep an eye out for sale periods to get heavily discounted flights (there are usually multiple a year). The destination airport is ‘Denpasar Bali (DPS)’.

Book accomodation as soon as you can to get your desired room and dates. Most places don’t require any deposit and allow free cancellation up to 1 week before. We recommend booking accomodation in Canggu for at least 2 nights during the wedding. It is 25 minutes drive from the wedding venue.

3-6 MONTHS IN ADVANCE

Make sure you have a valid passport. If your passport will be expired or has less than 6 months remaining from June 2024, you will need to renew it. Allow plenty of time before the departure date to apply for your passport and account for any delays. The passport fee is currently $308 for 10 year validity. https://www.passports.gov.au/getting-passport-how-it-works/passport-renewal

Plan your travel itinerary - places you want to visit on your trip, activities, experiences/tours etc. Decide if you want to book different accommodation (each area in Bali has a very different experience).

1-3 MONTHS IN ADVANCE

Schedule a pet sitter (if required)

Purchase travel gear. (e.g luggage, backpack, international travel adaptor, chargers etc).

Plan your travel wardrobe. The trip is planned during the dry season in Bali with temperatures about 30 degrees celcius. Make sure to arrange cooler clothes to avoid overheating.

1 MONTH IN ADVANCE

Convert Indonesian currency in cash. Start your trip with some cash notes in Indonesian currency (IDR) to be prepared upon arrival and avoid high airport conversion fees. As a rough guideline, $1AUD = ~$10,000IDR

Notify your banks. If you plan to use your card overseas, let your bank know of your travel plan to avoid being flagged as fraudulent and not being able to use your card.

Consider applying for an international travel card that best suits your needs. We recommend a 'Wise Debit Card' for the lowest conversion rates https://wise.com/au/borderless/card.

Consider an international travel sim for your mobile phone if your plan doesn't allow for an international upgrade option.

2 WEEKS IN ADVANCE

Get medications. Organise any prescriptions as well as over the counter medication you may need such as Panadol, travel sickness medication, Hydralyte etc.

Check your luggages liquids. Most airlines will only allow you to carry liquids in bottles 100ml or less in carry on luggage. Make sure you place big bottles of shampoo, deodorant, creams etc in checked baggage or transfer it to travel size for carry on.

Organise ride to airport . i.e Driving yourself and paying for airport parking, getting a lift from someone, catching an Uber.

Download travel apps. Our recommendations:

Waze - Offline map/navigation app

Grab - Food delivery and taxi services

Google Translate - Translate English to Indonesian

The Bali Bible - Bali travel guide (food, activities, discounts etc)

1 WEEK IN ADVANCE

Start packing! Create a checklist of everything you need and make sure you don't forget to bring any important documents like passports.
