Shayla and Danny met in Des Moines during the fall of 2019. Their first date was at 300 Rooftop, where they lost themselves in deep conversation while enjoying a live band. They quickly realized they shared many interest and connections. One was that Shayla had graduated from Coe College, where Danny's younger sister had attended, and the two of them had a class together. Danny and Shayla wasted no time in planning their second date.

Their relationship reached a milestone when Danny invited Shayla to his hometown of Davenport to meet his parents and watch the Iowa football game. The gathering of the four of them unexpectedly transformed into an introduction to over 20 members of the Loken family. Danny's worries quickly disappeared as he saw Shayla effortlessly embrace the opportunity to meet his lovely family. The experience felt familiar to her, as Shayla herself comes from a large family, adding even more warmth to the occasion. They soon became known as "Dan & Shay".

As their relationship continued to blossom, Danny and Shayla created countless memories together, perfectly complementing each other along the way. Amidst the challenges of the pandemic, they set out on a determined journey of running for 365 consecutive days, conquering three half marathons in that year. Their shared passion for traveling and sports has taken them on unforgettable experiences. From cheering on the Cubs and Cardinals at baseball games to being captivated by their favorite football teams: the Los Angeles Rams, Notre Dame Fighting Irish, and the Minnesota Vikings. They have also conquered hiking a 14,000 ft. mountain and ziplining across the breathtaking Colorado mountains.

Danny and Shayla are grateful that fate brought them together, creating an extraordinary bond that they cherish every day. With their adorable miniature goldendoodle Rudy, they eagerly anticipate the day they officially embark on their new journey as the Bushes!
