Nicholas and Shayna’s story began on October 23rd, 2021—on a night that almost didn’t happen. Shayna, a student at Grand Valley, had planned to stay in until her friends Max and Allison came to visit and convinced her to go out to her favorite bar in Grand Rapids. Meanwhile, Nicholas, a student at Hillsdale College, had been invited by his friend Nick Chudler to make the trip up to Grand Rapids for a birthday celebration.

By chance, both groups ended up at the same place.

When they walked into The BOB, Shayna greeted Nick Chudler, an old friend from home, when she noticed the friend walking in with him—Nicholas. Shayna then asked Nicholas to join her and head up to the third level of the bar. The two danced the night away and parted ways at the end of the night. A few days later, Shayna took a leap and messaged Nicholas, inviting him to come visit her the following weekend after his football game. To her surprise, he came, and so their story began.
