Inside the old Mankato house, Shelbie sat alone on the couch, studying. Her college roommate Katie had her boyfriend Mark over and he came downstairs to see what was going on. Shelbie casually asked Mark, "so... do you know any single guys? You know, nice, funny, smart..." Mark laughed and replied "Yeah I do, my cousin, Joey." Shelbie asked for his last name so she could do the typical Facebook Look-up. "He doesn't really seem like my type" Shelbie said as she scrolled through Joey's page.
Weeks later, Shelbie and Joey finally met up at a mutual friends house party in Mankato. Shelbie was weary, but somewhat impressed with his dance moves. They hung out for the weekend, then wanted to continue meeting up together.
Eventually things became official and they spent many weekends together. Their love grew more and more when they were with each other.
One day, Shelbie showed Joey some videos she watched in college, of girls getting proposed to with puppies. "This is what I want, I think I would die" Shelbie stated.
Well, Joey took note, and one Christmas Day, Shelbie was downstairs opening gifts, and was opening one from her dad. She thought she knew what was inside, and she was right. When she opened it, it was a dog bed, with dog toys and photos of two dogs. Shelbie was so elated, she would be getting her own dog, a German Shorthaired Pointer. "Well, I guess that beats the InstantPot I got you" said Joey.
In that moment, Joey had an amazing idea pop into his head. When getting ready to eat on Christmas Day, Joey pulled Shelbie's parents aside and said he was going to propose to her. He wanted to use the puppy to propose.
That is when the plan started.
Joey snuck around the next few months, working on the prefect proposal. Joey met not once, but four separate times with the jeweler to get the prefect ring for Shelbie.
Winter Carnival is a very special time for the Werden family, they attend every year. During this time, Joey made a plan to set Shelbie up to pick out her ring.
Shelbie's mom, Terri, and Shelbie went to the jeweler to get Terri's ring sized. In the mean time, Shelbie had also enjoyed looking at rings. The jeweler pulled a few boxes out of the case, which were already organized by Joey, for Shelbie to look at and try on. Shelbie found one that caught her eye, and she took a picture of it and sent it to Joey. Little did she know, Joey then made sure the jeweler put that ring off to the side until Joey came in next.
He was very sneaky. Deleting phone calls and text messages, and blocking his location were just a few of the ways he made sure he wouldn't get caught.
Eventually the day came to pick up Shelbie's new puppy. Even though they had picked a different dog as their first choice, their Luna would become their best choice.
Joining them to pick up the puppy was Shelbie and Joey, Shelbie's parents and sister, and Joey's parents. Everyone was so happy to meet the new puppy that would become a huge part of their life.
Shelbie and Joey had been debating on names ever since they found out they would be getting a puppy. They were debating on Ember and Luna. Eventually, everyone had to ask what her name was going to be, as they stood in the home, holding the puppy. Joey stepped forward and said, "Well actually, I already had a name tag made." He handed a silver heart shaped dog name tag to Shelbie for her to read. On one side it read "Shelbie Lyn Werden.." and on the other side, "Will You Marry Me?" Confused and in shock, Shelbie started crying, and through her tears she said, "Yes!"
When this was going on there were tears on everyones face, and all the dogs in the room peed on the floor, so much excitement!
Then Shelbie's mom said, "Well, now you have to let Joey name her." That's how Luna got her name.
And so, here we are, many months later, preparing for the wedding of two amazing people, who are so in love. They can't wait to continue this story with the next chapter in their life!
