John and Shelby first met during the fall of their senior year at Bowdoin College. It was curious that their paths had never crossed before, as Bowdoin is a very small school and they both happened to be from Maine. Fall turned into winter, which turned into spring, and by the time that they graduated, they were both heading down very different career paths. John pursued his career as an officer in the Marine Corps, while Shelby started her graduate work in education. While this split meant that they would be apart for quite some time, through carefully planned FaceTime dates, synchronized Netflix binging sessions, and a multitude of 48 hour weekend trips, they kept their relationship strong.Another summer passed by and Shelby ended up getting a teaching position in Minnesota. That summer, the Fourth of July weekend in Washington, D.C., John booked a session at a local "Escape the Room," an activity that both of them thoroughly enjoyed. However, this "Escape the Room" entailed something much more than just winning the keys out. Little to Shelby's knowledge, John had planned out every detail of the puzzle challenge with the establishment's owners and slowly, she realized that all of the clues were about them (although, it could also be argued that in her state of competitiveness, she was oblivious to all of those details). The final puzzle entailed a mirrored sequence of tiled letters that, when held up to a hand held mirror, spelled out "Will You Marry Me?" And just like that, it happened. John and Shelby are beyond excited to be coming full circle. While at Bowdoin, they lived across the parking lot from each other in one of the housing complexes on campus. They haven't lived that close to one another since. Now, with their relocation to San Diego, they can begin the rest of their journey together. They are beyond excited to have you join them on September 30th, 2017 to celebrate the next chapter in their story.
