Kris and Shelby's first date was at Gus's BBQ on April 16, 2021...followed by a scheduled second date a week later.

On May 8, 2021 Kris asked Shelby to be his girlfriend.

After two months of dating Kris and Shelby took their first trip to Texas to visit Shelby's family for the 4th of July.

Upon returning from their trip to Texas, Shelby and Kris stated taking day trips almost weekly to areas throughout southern California.

Some of these trips included attending the surfing US Open in Huntington Beach and the San Diego Zoo. Other trips included day hikes or beach trips.

In September 2022 Kris and Shelby decided to take the next step in their relationship and rent a house together in Santa Clarita, CA.

At the time, Shelby wasn't too familiar with the area but it has always been home for Kris, and Shelby welcomed the opportunity to grow closer to Kris' family and friends in town.

In September 2023 Kris and Shelby added their first (fur)child to the family and adopted Scout Johnson Bennett Rose from a breeder in Texas.

Since Scouts first flight home he has been keeping Kris and Shelby on their toes with his over the top personality and constant antics.

On May 18, 2024 Kris surprised Shelby with a lunch-time date to Santa Barbara (their favorite beach town for a day trip). The morning started off a little rocky because Kris requested that Shelby not wear leggings to such a nice restaurant and Kris was stressed because Shelby kept insisting that they could just eat anywhere (even if they missed the reservation). Despite all odds Kris and Shelby made it to their lunch reservation on time.

Throughout the lunch Kris sat nervously waiting for his friend to arrive with the ring and to photograph the surprise proposal and eventually snuck away to the "bathroom" before returning and dropping to one knee. Kris then told Shelby to let him speak after she repeatedly said "oh my gosh no."

Eventually Shelby calmed down enough to say yes and allow Kris to slip the ring on her finger.

Shelby did make sure to purchase leggings for the drive home and appreciated Kris' insistence that she not wear her typical athleisure wear to the lunch.
