How We Met:

Like many things in the digital age we met online in early May 2024. Shelby got lucky and the first date on the dating website was Alex!

First Date:

Shelby and Alex went to dinner at the Hazelwood. Alex was nervous hoping that he was making a good impression. They talked for hours and stayed until well past their expected dinner reservation time. Starting from their first date Alex remembers talking to some of his best friends saying he really hoped that the date went well and that they would get together again soon. Shelby remembers telling Alex, "This is more talking than I have ever done with someone in one sitting."

Memorable Moments:

Shelby and Alex have had many adventures from shooting arrows, throwing axes, hitting batting cages / driving ranges, and exploring many of the Minnesota state parks. They have also traveled to see Taylor Tomlinson at The Chicago Theater, and failed to escape the last room of a Scooby Doo themed escape room. They have also traveled to south padre island Texas for spring break with family. Both of them remember telling each other how they have each been called the quiet family member or a "Sheldon." Both families were excited to find out that they were dating someone.

Reading, family time, solitude, and spending time with each other too!

Proposal Story:

Alex drove Shelby nuts by taking her on a surprise date and refusing to share any details. The day was planned down to the hour with the help of Shelby's sister Shannon and her sister in law Danielle who were both equally as nervous as Alex to make sure the day went well. First, Alex took Shelby on a horse drawn carriage ride complete with roses through downtown Minneapolis where they survived the wind gusts in freezing temperatures. Following, Alex took Shelby to one of their first date locations at Subtext books where Shelby's brother Sean, sister in law Danielle, sister Shannon, and brother in law Armin were hiding waiting to take photos and celebrate. The whole group then went out to dinner at the St Paul Hotel followed by heading to a speakeasy. At dinner Shelby mentioned that she had an idea the proposal was going to happen and got her nails done prior to the date. Alex survived his nerves when the ring fell through a hole in jacket pocket into the lining of the jacket and managed to successfully retrieve the ring.

The Future:

Both Shelby and Alex are beyond excited to celebrate with family and friends and get to know their respective new family and friends. Alex has said to Shelby many times that he feels incredibly lucky and blessed to have met her and is excited to spend the future together. Shelby is blessed and excited to plan her future with Alex with all the dream plans.
