Gus was working long hours trying to make ends meet. Working shift work and trying to adjust to the night life. Then met this night owl that happened to be working nights. She was travelling through Europe at the time so texting hours worked out great.
We first met at Postino's where Shelby claims I was late, she just happened to arrive 30 minutes early like she always does. Time flew by talking and before we knew it the restaurant was closing. We said we'll meet again and set up a second date, at St. Arnolds brewery. This time I showed up early, I had to beat her there. But to my surprise she didn't show up. My relentless self didn't let this go, I had to text her, I had to figure out why I got stood up. Turns out allegedly I never officially confirmed the date.
After that I left to Vietnam for new years and I kept thinking about this cool girl, couldn't wait to come back to see her. Shortly after we started dating, then I said "I love you" to which she said "No you don't" (classic Shelbs).
Fast forward 3.5 years of fun stories, an electrocution, several more murder attempts, a pandemic, moving in together and many fun trips I decided to pop the question.
While travelling through Annecy, France I lied to her (first and only time) and told her we were grabbing brunch after seeing the sunrise. There was a photographer waiting for us and I asked her "Shelby, will you marry me?" to which she replied: "Is this a joke?"
So that brings us to today, where I hope I get a yes when the priest asks "Will you take him to be your Husband?". I guess we'll see what she says...
To make this short and sweet, I only arrived 10 minutes early to our first date, he did not confirm our second date and the electrocution was an accident ( I haven't touched a car battery since).
When he asked me to marry him, I was shocked! Before we left on our trip, he said "I would never propose on a trip. It's too easy."
So yes, I did initially respond with "Is this a joke?" The confusion quickly became excitement and joy!
