The thing is, Shelby and Aaron should have met years ago. They both somehow had many of the same friends but their paths never crossed. During the August before, what she hoped would be, her final year at college, Shelby reconnected with an old friend from high school, Angie Jachim (now Zinzilieta). Both Angie and Shelby had very busy schedules so the only time they could get together was when she was hanging out with her friends like she did every Friday, so she invited Shelby along. This was just the beginning of Angie's plan. As Friday approached, Angie casually let slip to Aaron that a new girl would be coming on Friday and that she thought he would like her. Also sometime before Friday, Angie not-so-casually let slip to Shelby that she thought her and Aaron would be perfect together. This set both Shelby and Aaron's social anxiety on high alert, perfect for romance!That Friday Shelby got there late, not wanting to get there early and have to hyperventilate in her truck. As she ran up to the door of Applebee's, there was a towering man holding the door open. The first words out of Shelby's mouth were "No one told me you were tall", which probably made her lose approximately a dozen first impression points. Everyone, Angie, Cory, Bri, and David squeezed themselves in the corner booth with Shelby and Aaron smooshed at the end. That night…wasn't the best. Shelby was too nervous to participate in the conversation, and Aaron was too far away to hear anything. Forced small talk was made, including an incredibly awkward conversation about their ill grandpas. That night they separated without saying much but later that night, Aaron decided he was going to do something completely out of character, he was going to text Shelby.He texted her to tell her that he enjoyed meeting her and that they should go see a movie and go minigolfing that Sunday. Shelby, decided to say yes. That Sunday, Aaron picked Shelby up to go to Marion. Somehow, the conversation was incredibly easy and flowed like they had known each other their entire lives. There were a few times in that 20 minute car ride that Shelby suspected that someone must have coached Aaron on how to respond to certain topics but it was surprisingly genuine. Shelby let Aaron win the first game, and he cheated on the second (you can't get a 4.5!). It was the middle of an August afternoon and it was hot. Shelby and Aaron bonded over their hatred of summer and decided to head to the theater early. There they watched Guardians of the Galaxy and a mutual love for Chris Pratt was born. The whole way home, Shelby and Aaron debated about and dicussed thier favorite superheroes.It was a perfect first date. As soon as Shelby got in the front door, she texted her friend Rachel,"I'm going to marry this man"And she was right
