Our Love Story

Bumble

It all started in June 2021, when Shelby took a travel contract in Wisconsin to live with a best friend, Michaela. Her intention for the summer, before moving on to another location, was to hang out with her friends, learn the Milwaukee culture (aka lots of beer + cheese), and meet some new people along the way… So she downloaded an online dating app, Bumble, to do just that - meet someone new.

Less than one mile down the road from where she was living, Jessy was hoping for another fun-filled Milwaukee summer, with old friends and new ones too. So, he also downloaded Bumble.

They both swiped right, based on a few photos and most likely some terrible one liners… Shelby started off the conversation with one word and an emoji, “Howdy! *cowboy hat smiley face* ”. Needless to say, Jessy was intrigued.

Getting To Know Each Other

After talking for a few days virtually, the two decided to meet in person on a Wednesday after work. They met for some drinks by the river at Sail Loft in downtown Milwaukee. Both were feeling very nervous for their first-ever “Bumble date”, but instantly, they hit it off, smiling and laughing the entire evening. After Sail Loft, they decided on a nightcap at Camp Bar in their neighborhood - it was there that Shelby unintentionally really impressed Jessy by ordering his favorite - a cold Busch Light.

Lucky for Jessy, the Milwaukee Bucks were *crushing it* in the NBA playoffs that summer. Also lucky for Jessy, Shelby was embracing the city’s culture and wanted to experience the Deer District Watch Party downtown… He quickly became her official local Milwaukee tour guide. The Bucks kept winning, so they kept seeing each other! The two shared other fun dates, including Brewer’s games and many nights at Camp Bar. One of their fondest memories of the summer was the Buck’s parade after winning the championship.

Made It Official

As the summer continued, the two grew closer and closer, and Shelby’s intentions of leaving Milwaukee were diminishing, all because of Jessy. Two and a half months of Shelby’s stubborn resistance and Jessy’s confident persistence, and one crashed wedding later, they finally made it official! Not long after, they enjoyed their first vacation together to the Apostle Islands in Northern Wisconsin, and later met each other’s families, where they were both welcomed in with love.

Honey, We're Home!

As fall turned into winter, their love for each other grew. Shelby had taken a travel gig in Indiana for 3 months, and despite road trips every other weekend to see each other, virtual cooking dates, and Jessy reading the Harry Potter series (for the first time!!!) to Shelby over the phone every night, they quickly realized that long distance was for the birds. The two decided that after a perfect first Christmas together, Shelby and Grover Sue would move in with Jessy and Chi! After a New Year’s Eve at home with COVID, and the short time that Grover needed to adjust to her new house and new dog sister, the four became incredibly happy in their charming home together.

First Year Together

The year was spent having fun with friends and traveling… Many road trips to southern Illinois to spend time with Shelby’s family. One trip to Mexico to celebrate the Sheldon's wedding. One trip to Atlanta, where Shelby & Jessy played “match maker”, setting up their 2 BFFs Joe + Lily, who are still smitten to this day. And lastly, one trip to the Dominican Republic with said BFFs and Jessy’s family, to celebrate Jessy’s 30th and golden birthday!

The Proposal

It was obvious to Jessy and Shelby, as well as everyone around them, that they had both found “The One”. Though Shelby had asked Jessy to marry him many, many, many times, it was not until a *very* special December 9th evening that Jessy got down on one knee in front of their Christmas tree at home and officially proposed! She said “yes”, laughed, sobbed, and cheered. He then surprised her with dinner to celebrate at Sail Loft, where it had all began. Dinner was followed by, you guessed it, a stop at Camp Bar, where Shelby thought it was just to commemorate their first date, but in fact, Jessy had one last trick up his sleeve - a surprise engagement party with many of their closest friends to celebrate. The two were, and still are, floating on cloud nine about it all!

Life on Avondale Boulevard

Fast forward to today - we love playing games, attending concerts, going on bike rides, spending time with our friends, and visiting family when we can. We spend most of our evenings at home with Chi and Grover Susan, enjoying both the big things and the little things in every day. We are each other’s rocks and biggest cheerleaders, and we love doing life together.

We have been planning our dream wedding together ever since the proposal! We easily decided on a wedding venue in Milwaukee - though it will be a destination for many of our guests, we wanted to share the city that is so special to us with everyone we love. We have been going on dates on the 13th of every month to count down to the big day! Cannot wait for you all to be here!!
