It all started with a message on Instagram. I had just posted a photo—nothing out of the ordinary—when I got a DM from someone I didn’t know: Dylan. He mentioned that we had a few mutual friends and said he’d seen me pop up on their stories before. I was a little hesitant at first, but he was sweet, funny, and respectful, so I replied.

We started talking casually, and it turned out we had more mutual friends than we realized. We joked about how we had probably been at the same events and never actually crossed paths. The conversation flowed so easily that before I knew it, we were messaging every day.

One day he asked if I wanted to go to a truck show with him. I explained to him that it wasn’t a date, I was paying my own way and that we were just friends.

The truck show was way more fun than I expected. It wasn’t about the trucks (okay, maybe a little); it was about how easy it felt being around him. We laughed, walked around, talked for hours—and from that day on, something just clicked.
