St. Anne Catholic Church, Somerset, WIShelly's family has been attending this church for many, many years. It is very special place for both Austin and Shelly and we feel very blessed to be able to celebrate the sacrament of marriage here.

The Grand Banquet Hall, Stillwater, MNThis banquet hall used to be a lumberyard in the heyday of Stillwater's lumber boom. Shelly's late grandfather, Don Schmitt, worked here for several years. It was repurposed into a ballroom in 1994, but you can still see the old touches of the lumberyard.

Our Wedding

OUR ENGAGEMENT STORY Austin planned a wonderful night for the both of them. First, they went out for dinner at Rudy's Redeye Grill, one of their favorite spots. Austin opted for sitting on the rooftop, which seemed like a great idea until it started to rain. And then it began to pour. But they still managed to enjoy some delicious food just in time for the clouds to dissipate and the sun to start to peek out. From there, the rest of the night was a surprise. Austin took Shelly to downtown Stillwater. First, they stopped at the Maple Island Brewing because Austin had to go to the bathroom. Austin his since shared that he didn't have to go the bathroom, he was just very nervous! They wandered around town, making their way to the Main Street stairs. At the bottom of the stairs, the cafe nearby was playing "Marry You" by Bruno Mars and Austin couldn't believe it. That's where Shelly started getting a tiny bit suspicious. We climbed partway up the stairs and Austin asked to take a break. He told me to feel how fast his heart rate was... I was worried he was going to have a heart attack. Then, he bent down on one knee... to tie his shoe. Austin is a huge fan of "The Office" and couldn't resist pulling a Jim move. We climbed to the top of the stairs and took a seat on the bench up there and took in the view. I don't think that Austin accounted for the fact that the stairs are quite busy on a nice summer night, and we found ourselves joined by a workout group running up and down the stairs, a few older couples, and some teenagers. He made the comment several times that he didn't think it would be that busy. After sitting there for a while, Austin told me he had something for me and reached for his pocket... and pulled out a photo album. It had every picture of us since we had started dating. It was certainly a trip down memory lane, looking back on how much they had both changed in the time we had known each other. Shelly got to the end of the book and found the last page to be empty. Austin told her should fill it with a "good picture." He looked around see that the overlook was still filled with lots of people and suggested Shelly look through the book again. When she finished going through the book a second time, he asked again if there was another bench that would be a little quieter. Shelly suggested the bench that's halfway down the stairs. We made our way down there, and Austin handed me the photo album to look at for the third time, and Shelly started to get a little suspicious. When she reached the end of the album, Austin got down on one knee to ask her to marry him. And she, of course, said yes! An older couple was coming up the stairs right at the moment and offered to take their picture. The couple told Shelly and Austin that this was such a special moment for them! Things did not quite go to plan if you ask Austin, but Shelly thought it was perfect.

We are so grateful to all our guests for coming to join in our special day, both near and far. We have reserved a block of rooms under Alman Wedding at two hotels in Stillwater that are adjacent to one other for convenience for our guests. Reservations must be made before July 27, 2022.

TRANSPORTATION Transportation will be provided for guests. Guests will be responsible for their own transportation to the ceremony at St. Anne's in Somerset. After the ceremony, there will be a shuttle from the hotels to the Grand Banquet Hall for the reception. There will be return shuttles at the end of the evening. More information will be available closer to the big day.
