Sherri and Larry are getting married and you’re invited! Sherri and Larry are <a href="https://oaksandspokes.org/" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Oaks &amp; Spokes</a> and <a href="https://raleighcommunitykickstand.org/" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Raleigh Community Kickstand</a>’s two shipping containers. They want to become a hub for bike programming for both organizations at Dix Park, but they need your help to make this happen.United in love before our lord Sheldon Brown, Sherri and Larry will become a community bike shop, a center for education, and a gathering space. In lieu of traditional gifts, we’re asking friends, family, and the community to contribute to their registry and help bring their new home to life.

This marriage is not just a celebration of Sherri and Larry’s new lifelong partnership. It is a celebration of the community coming together to support a hub for mobility justice that will provide folks with the tools and knowledge to move freely and sustainably throughout their city.The goal of this new hub is to remove barriers to bike ownership and upkeep. A working bike provides independence, flexibility, and dignity. We believe everyone deserves mobility independence regardless of income, housing status, or prior mechanical experience.Types of programming in this space will include:- Community shop hours- Bike repair clinics- Volunteer work sessions- Maintenance workshops- Learn-to-Ride classesWe need your help to make this happen! We are looking to raise at least $8,050 to transform Sherri and Larry into a working bike shop. You can contribute through their registry. Here’s how the funds will be used:- Solar Fund - $3,550 - Covers the materials for a solar power system. <a href="https://ncsolarnow.com/" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">NCSolarNow</a> is generously donating their time and expertise to design and install the project.- New Home Fund - $2,500 - Covers the workbenches, storage, lighting, fans, and other infrastructure needed to turn these two containers into a functional bike shop.- Tool Fund - $1,000 - Rounds out our existing tool collection with shop repair stands, specialty tools, and additional portable mechanic tool sets.- Parts Fund - $1,000 - Provides an initial stock of parts and supplies so we can start repairing bikes as soon as the shop opens.Help make Sherri and Larry’s special day even more special by helping us reach our $8,050 fundraising goal!

Their Dream

For years, Larry and Sherri passed each other in the night.Traveling by train, crossing cities and state lines, the two always moving. Two shipping containers on separate journeys, never knowing that somewhere out there was the other half of their story. Until one day, their journeys brought them to Dix Park in Raleigh.Finally, Larry and Sherri were together. No more passing in the night. No more wondering where the other one was. They had found their home and each other, but their love story is about more than just the two of them.Together, they support Oaks &amp; Spokes and Raleigh Community Kickstand, creating a place for bikes, tools, repairs, learning, and connection.Larry and Sherri may have started their lives carrying cargo across the country, but now they are filled with love, community, and the occasional bicycle part. Ready to keep Raleigh rolling.Some love stories are written in the stars. Theirs was written while riding on the rails.
