John Ethan and Shura met on the Hillsdale track team her freshman year, but it would be another year and half until their relationship really began. It was hard to avoid one another eating at the same table every day and practicing at the same building. Meal time conversations turned into pool games, doing homework together, and eventually turning into a swing dance event date. John Ethan graciously paid for Shura’s $1.50 ticket for swing dancing, which officially marked it as the first date. This led to a disk golf date a few weeks later and excitement about the relationship moving into summer of 2022. Texting turned into long conversations on the phone and daily calls. By midsummer, they began dating seriously as John Ethan started his last year at Hillsdale College. Over the course of the school year and many memories later, John Ethan graduated with a ring on his mind. During a visit to Houston, John Ethan proposed at the site of many of their summer phone calls, a pool at his uncle’s farm house in Bellville. Shura said yes with no hesitation but some confusion over which hand the ring went on.
