From Mach 2 to "I Do"

How they metSimone and Will first crossed paths when they began training in the F/A-18 legacy hornet in San Diego, CA. After a brief exchanging of some judgmental words regarding Simone’s chest patches, their friendship grew over the next few months. In January of 2020 after a few too many tequila shots at Trailer Park After Dark (a favorite bar of theirs), they took the leap – and officially became a couple. Their journeyAfter only a few months, Simone and Will's time together was cut short after Will was sent to Beaufort, SC to learn how to fly the F-35B and they were unsure if they would be stationed together again. Simone was luckily sent to Beaufort that summer to join her fleet squadron where the two continued to adventure, and enjoyed the newest addition to the family, Phoebe (the greatest Australian Shepherd). In summer 2021, Will left to be stationed in Japan for the next three years, while Simone went back through flight school to transition to the front seat. They endured multiple moves, and kept up the long-distance relationship through (lots) of late night/early morning facetimes and phone calls.&nbsp;While Covid (and extended deployments) kept them apart for nearly a year, they were able to both catch superfluous long-haul flights from Dallas to Tokyo and vice versa over the next two years. On one such occasion, the Christmas of 2022, Simone traveled to Japan, and the two visited all over until Will FINALLY proposed in Kyoto over dinner on December 27th, 2022 after tormenting Simone by carrying around the ring for over a week. They were “officially” married in San Antonio on Friday, October 13th, 2023 (spooky), and were finally reunited in Beaufort when Will came home from Japan in the summer of 2024. The futureLiving in Beaufort for at least a few more years, Simone and Will have been working hard, but still traveling all over the country (and sometimes the world). They are excited to celebrate over six years together, and of course excited to welcome you all to an unforgettable experience in Bali, Indonesia.

Transportation

Bali has plenty of easy and affordable ways to get around, whether you're heading to a beach club, temple, or your next adventure. Hotel Shuttle Services Many resorts, hotels and villas offer airport transfer services, which can be more convenient, especially after a long flight — ask your accommodation ahead of time. Taxis are widely available, but it’s best to use reputable companies like Bluebird Taxi (look for the blue cars and meters). Grab and Gojek (Indonesia’s versions of Uber) are popular ride-hailing apps for cars and scooters — super convenient and budget-friendly. Prefer to scoot around yourself? Scooter rentals are common and cheap, but only recommended if you're confident on two wheels (and don’t forget an international driver’s license). For a relaxed experience, consider hiring a private driver for the day, especially for longer trips to Ubud, Uluwatu, or the rice terraces. It’s surprisingly affordable and allows you to explore at your own pace. Most hotels, villas or air bnbs hosts can recommend private drivers to use! **A Note on Bali Traffic**Bali is beautiful — and popular! With narrow roads, lots of scooters, and a laid-back island pace, traffic can build up quickly, especially around Seminyak, Canggu, Ubud, and during sunset hours. Getting from place to place might take longer than it looks on a map, so we recommend leaving extra time for airport transfers, dinner reservations, or events. Grab a coconut, put on a good playlist, and embrace the slower flow — it’s all part of the Bali experience. Patience (and maybe snacks) go a long way.

Tegallalang Rice Terraces – Iconic, lush, and perfect for sunrise walks or scenic photos but very tourist heavy.Jatiluwih Rice Terrace is another option that is less touristy and more authentic but further of a drive! Mount Batur Sunrise Hike – Trek a volcano in the early hours (~2am start) for breathtaking sunrise views worth the early start! Sekumpul or Gitgit Waterfalls – Some of Bali’s most stunning waterfalls tucked into the jungle. Nusa Penida Day Trip – For cliffside views, Instagram-famous Kelingking Beach, and turquoise waters. Try Luwak Coffee (Kopi Luwak) - Bali is famous for producing one of the world’s rarest and most expensive coffees—made from beans eaten and naturally processed by the civet cat. You can tour coffee plantations near Ubud or Kintamani, learn about the process, and sample fresh brews. Mason Elephant Park - This award-winning sanctuary is home to rescued Sumatran elephants and offers up-close experiences like feeding, bathing, and guided educational tours — all in a beautiful jungle setting. Seminyak – Trendy beach clubs, great shopping, and sunset cocktails. Seminyak is great for long walks and a beach club crawl. Potato Head Beach Club is a fan favorite as well as KU DE TA. Canggu beach is popular for surfers with tons of nearby cafes and bars. Check out La Brisa or The Lawn. Be sure to bring swimsuits either way! Uluwatu – Home to world-class surf, dramatic cliffs, and an abundance of beach bars like Single Fin, an iconic clifftop bar known for sunset cocktails and good vibes. You also have El Kabron and Sundays Beach Club, a hidden cove with white-sand beach, bean bags and a cozy bonfire at sunset. Jimbaran Bay – Relaxed beach with legendary seafood dinners on the sand. Bali is home to some truly breathtaking temples and sacred places — and visiting them is a beautiful way to experience the island’s rich culture and spirituality. When planning a temple visit, please keep in mind a few respectful guidelines: - Dress modestly: Both men and women should cover their shoulders and knees.- Sarongs &amp; sashes are typically required. Most temples will provide these at the entrance if you don’t have your own.- Shoes off when entering the inner sanctuaries or prayer areas.- Women who are menstruating are traditionally asked not to enter temple grounds. Be mindful, take in the peaceful atmosphere, and don’t climb on sacred statues or shrines. Uluwatu Temple – Perched on a dramatic cliff overlooking the Indian Ocean, Uluwatu Temple is not just stunning at sunset but also a spiritual gem. Don’t be shy—prices are often marked higher for tourists, so it’s expected that you’ll negotiate! They will let you know if the price is fixed. Ubud Art Market - A bustling market full of handmade crafts, textiles, jewelry, and souvenirs. A great place to pick up authentic Balinese art and gifts. Celuk Village - Famous for its intricate gold and silver jewelry making — watch artisans at work or buy a special keepsake. Mas Village - Known for traditional woodcarving workshops, perfect for seeing local craftsmanship up close. What is the weather like in Bali during September?

Bali enjoys a warm, tropical climate year-round. The island has two main seasons: the dry season (April to October) and the rainy season (November to March). During the dry months, you can expect plenty of sunshine, low humidity, and clear skies. Even in the rainy season, showers are often short and followed by sunshine. That being said, temperatures typically range between 24°C to 31°C (75°F to 88°F), with warm days and comfortably cooler evenings. What is the currency used in Bali?

General health and safety

Is the tap water safe to drink in Bali? Tap water in Bali is not safe to drink. Always drink bottled, filtered, or boiled water.
