Do I have to wear Indian clothes? No, guests are welcome to wear Indian clothing, but please wear what you're comfortable in. If you would like to wear Indian clothing, please feel free to reach out with any questions or check out our quick guide below.

For the Sangeet / Welcome Party, we’d love if guests wore bright colors. For the ceremony and reception, the attire is black tie optional / formal Indian wear. However, please note that you will be requested to take your shoes off and cover your head for the ceremony. Ramalas (head scarf) will be provided for gentlemen, and extra dupattas (scarfs) will be provided for ladies. Most Indian womenswear comes with a dupatta.

Types of Indian clothing:

Lehenga: A lehenga choli is a 3 piece outfit consisting of a long skirt, a cropped blouse, and a scarf which can be draped any way the wearer prefers.

Salwar kameez: A salwar kameez is a 3 piece outfit consisting of a long tunic style top which usually goes to knee length or farther, and a pair of pants and a scarf. A subtype of these outfits is called “anarkali” in which the tunic is replaced by an A line style gown which is usually ankle to floor length.

Saree: A saree is a 3 piece outfit consisting of a petticoat / underskirt, a long fabric (can be up to 9 yards!) which will be draped around the waist and over one shoulder, and a cropped blouse. These are very traditional and gorgeous, but can be a handful to drape correctly and keep in place, so not for the faint of heart! The petticoat or underskirt is usually sold separately.

Timing Recommendations:

Buying: Visit at least 2 months in advance.

Renting: Secure your outfit 4-6 weeks before the wedding for the best selection.

Note: Pay attention to the shipping times, and double check if the material is being sold to you as fully stitched, ”ready to wear”, or “semi-stitched” which means they will send you the cut pieces of fabric and you will need to find a seamstress or tailor to make the dress for you which can take several weeks.
