To everyone joining us in Beijing — we've put together the primary dates we'll be running group tours around the city. All tours are optional, but we need a sense of who's interested in what so we can assemble practical group sizes and finalize logistics.

We're so glad you're making the trip — Beijing is an extraordinary city, and there's far more to see than any one visit can hold. Here are our recommendations to get you started.
The Forbidden City and Tiananmen Square — One of the most awe-inspiring places on earth. Daily visitor numbers are capped, so book tickets online well in advance. Tiananmen Square is right on your doorstep from the Mandarin Oriental Qianmen.
The Great Wall — No trip to Beijing is complete without it. We recommend the Mutianyu section: less crowded than Badaling, beautifully restored, and surrounded by forested hillsides. About 1.5 hours from the city center — plan for a half or full day.
The Temple of Heaven — Stunning Ming dynasty architecture set in a large, peaceful park. Especially magical in the early morning, when locals gather for tai chi and music.
The Summer Palace — A serene imperial garden and lakeside retreat on the city's outskirts. Beautiful in every season. Allow at least half a day.
A different side of Beijing
Qianmen Street and the Hutongs — You'll be steps from Qianmen, one of Beijing's oldest pedestrian streets. Wander into the surrounding hutong alleyways for a glimpse of old Beijing life — the Dashilar area just off Qianmen is particularly charming.
798 Art District — A former industrial complex transformed into one of Asia's most vibrant contemporary art scenes. Great galleries, coffee, and design studios. Perfect for a relaxed afternoon.
Lama Temple (Yonghe Temple) — One of Beijing's most important Tibetan Buddhist temples. Beautifully ornate and genuinely atmospheric.
Where to eat
Peking Duck — A must. Da Dong is the modern, theatrical choice; Quanjude is the classic institution.
Dumplings and noodles — Explore the side streets around Qianmen and Wangfujing for excellent local spots.
Wangfujing Snack Street — A famous food street with every kind of street snack imaginable. Fun to walk through even if you're just browsing.
Tip: Major attractions, including the Forbidden City, require advance online booking and have daily visitor caps. Reserve tickets as soon as your schedule is set, or ask your hotel concierge to arrange a guided tour.
