In the whirlwind year of 2020, amidst the chaos and uncertainty of a global pandemic, a love story began at an unexpected place—Fuzzy's Taco Shop. I, Skye, was working as a cashier, while Brandon was a cook in the bustling kitchen. The atmosphere was far from romantic, with the constant hustle and the underlying tension of Covid-19, but it was in this unlikely setting that our paths crossed.
From the moment I started working at Fuzzy's, Brandon and I crossed paths numerous times. Brandon's initial impressions of me were that I was cute and hardworking, and he always says he fell in love with my eyes and the way they squinted because we had to wear masks during Covid. I found Brandon to be very hardworking with a great sense of humor, always making everyone laugh. We had a few interactions where we would talk at work, but for the most part, we were just focused on our jobs. Though he says he always tried to initiate conversations, I never quite caught on.
I had just gone through a rough patch, having lost my dad, Brandon sensed that I needed a friend, and that's why he asked for my number. I thought he was joking, especially since he played it off in front of our coworkers, but I gave him my number anyway, scribbled on the back of a receipt and tossed it at him.
After exchanging numbers, we talked a little, but I ended up ghosting him because I knew he was older than me, and I didn’t think it was anything serious. A few days later, we worked together again, and he remarked, “Oh, I guess you don’t want to talk since you never responded to me. Don’t worry, I don’t want to talk to you anyways.” His comment made me immediately text him, saying, “Hey,” to which he responded with “Hey.” We texted all through the next few days. A few days later, he invited me over to his house, and we talked all night.
Our first "official date" was the next day. We went to Walmart, bought ingredients for overnight oats, and made them at his house. Brandon also cooked me dinner. He likes to say that I came over and never left, which is pretty much true. About a month later, I moved in with him because we were spending all our free time together anyway.
Brandon proposed on Christmas at his brother Adam’s house in Slidell, LA. He taped the ring to the back of a SpongeBob magnet, surprising me with a sweet and memorable gesture.
Our journey together has been amazing. We’ve gone on so many trips and seen so many new places together. I can’t wait to experience the world with him and build a life together.
Our love story started in an unlikely place during a challenging time, but it has become a beautiful journey filled with laughter, growth, and endless love. I am so grateful for Brandon and the life we are building together.
