For any one who doesn’t know, Skylar and Brendan met on a dating app. A few days before Thanksgiving, Skylar went on hinge to actually delete the app; however her curiosity overcame her and she took one last look at her likes. As she was quickly swiping left not paying attention to the profiles, something made her stop to look at Brendan’s profile. She swiped right almost immediately. Skylar figured out later in the relationship, Brendan joined the app just a day before.

After matching, they clicked instantly. They skipped “what’s your favorite color?” And went straight to deep conversations. They would stay up until early hours of the morning talking even if it left the other only a few hours to sleep. They didn’t care because talking to each other was the best part of their days.

After only talking for two days Brendan told Skylar the military wouldn’t let him go home for Thanksgiving. Without a second thought Skylar asked her mom if she could invite him to Thanksgiving. Her mom said of course!

Thanksgiving rolls around; Brendan came up with the idea of before meeting Skylar and her family face to face for the first time, let’s go on a little coffee date before to see if there’s a connection. He surprised Skylar with flowers and a miniature foam soccer ball. To this day, that is one of the most thoughtful gifts she’s ever gotten. The connection was instant and time flew by on their coffee date; they made it back home for Thanksgiving dinner just in time.

Two weeks and a few dates later, Brendan asked Skylar to be his girlfriend. Nine months later, a few days before Brendan was stationed to Norfolk, VA, he asked her to marry him where they had their first real date at Cypress gardens with a paper ring (Skylar is low key obsessed with Taylor Swift so she greatly appreciated the Taylor reference). Two and a half months later he proposed with a screen shot of the ring in the kitchen of their new house… the next day the real ring came. This time he proposed on the stairs of their house as Skylar held Saint back. A few days later, Skylar had to drop Brendan off at base to be deployed. It was one of the hardest things she’s had to do; and one of the hardest things for him to have to turn his back and walk towards the boat away from her.

Deployment wasn’t all sad. It taught them a lot of skills and bettered others. Yes, the holidays apart weren’t the easiest and making life decisions without each other were just as hard; however, it taught them that time together is precious, never take anything for granted, communication is key when limited contact is in place, and take being able to talk for only two minutes as a gift. The space between them made their relationship and love for each other stronger, which neither of them thought was possible.

September 28th 2024, will be the start of a new chapter in their crazy, unordinary, perfect story; they can’t wait to share it with all their closest and welcoming friends and family.
