On May 29th 2019, Skylar flew into San Diego, California to celebrate her best friend Angela's 21st birthday. Angela corraled her friend group, which consisted of Nic to all go out tonight. It was actually Nic who encouraged the reluctant group to agree to go out to celebrate Angela's birthday. To make a long story short, Nic asked Skylar about her tattoos and books and they made the funny realization they were both reading Stephen King's autobiography (On Writing-- an excellent read by the way). Skylar flew back home to Oregon- Nic visited shortly after and the rest is history.

After 5 months of long distance, a pandemic, an 11-month deployment, an out of state move, and two new fur babies later, Nic proposed to Skylar on December 30th 2022.
