True to who Skylar is at her core, she was 20 minutes late to her and John's first date. He waited patiently at the table, a bouquet of flowers sitting to his left. It was the first time they would meet in-person since they had originally found each other online. Finally, after touching up her makeup in her car and dousing herself in perfume, Skylar ran into the restaurant. As she scanned the loud room, her eye caught his. He was cute! She let out a long sigh of relief as she sat down across from him, grateful he didn't lie about his looks on his dating profile! John nervously played with his straw wrapper as he answered all of Skylar's usual first-date questions. They laughed together as they both shared stories from their childhood. And there were quiet moments where they just looked at each other and silently thanked the heavens that the other person was normal! The date ended with a hug, and Skylar smelled that bouquet of flowers her entire drive home.
For their second date, Skylar and John went to the rodeo. It was a gorgeous summer evening, and John was immediately smitten as Skylar loudly booed the kids that fell off their sheep during the mutton bustin' event! Every time there was a cowboy from Texas, John would cheer in order to win points with Skylar, a true Texas girl. After saying no a few times, John finally gave in and let Skylar buy him a $10 lemonade that was way too big and way too sweet. They ended the night holding hands, and John knew then that this was the girl he was going to marry.
After a few more dates, Skylar decided to end the relationship. She had recently gone through a lot of life changes including coming home from an LDS mission, moving to Utah, and starting a new job. She knew that John really liked her and wasn't sure if she felt the same. You can imagine John's surprise! The girl he felt he was going to marry was breaking up with him! He was heartbroken, but he gave her the time and space she asked for.
After about a month, and with the encouragement of close friends, John decided to reach out to Skylar again. He sent her a text that read, "Hey Skylar...I told myself I'd wait a month and if I was still thinking about you, I'd at least reach out and see how you're doing and if you would want to go out again. If nothing has changed for you, all the best! If you're open to it, I'd love to go out again. Hope you've been doing well either way."
Skylar was obviously shocked by the message, but felt like she owed John a conversation to explain why she had ended things. A few days later, they went to dinner. By the end of the night, they BOTH knew they wanted to be together.
A few days later, Skylar asked John to be her boyfriend. A few weeks after that, they were planning their wedding! As the saying goes, "when you know, you know!"
John is a true gentleman and wanted to ask Skylar's parents for their blessing in-person before officially proposing. A trip home to Texas for Christmas was already planned, so Skylar assumed he would ask her parents then. Little did she know that he flew to Houston on his own and met her parents without her! He ordered the ring, planned a trip to California for Thanksgiving (where he swore up and down he was NOT going to propose), and then made all the arrangements for the big day. On November 24, 2023 Skylar and John went for a sunset walk on the beach in Coronado, and there in the sand was a single red rose. Skylar had no idea it was a mark for the photographer! John got down on one knee, Skylar started SCREAMING, and the rest is history.
John and Skylar waited a long time to find each other. They watched their friends get married over the years, and kept wondering when it would be their turn. After many seemingly unanswered prayers. the timing was finally right. God led Skylar to Utah, which is where John lived. Two weeks after she moved, they had their first date. It really was divine intervention! It's finally their turn, and they could not be happier to celebrate their love with you on May 11, 2024!
