Our Wedding

Three days before I met Ryan, I wrote a letter to God asking for my soulmate. I decided it was time to surrender. It wasn’t just any letter; it was a detailed wish list, a guide I trusted the universe would use to lead me to the one meant for me. I was nineteen, swiping on Tinder, hoping to find my forever person when I came across Ryan—holding a giant fish, his sunlit skin glowing. I was hooked instantly. A few days later, we met by chance on the streets of Ithaca during an outdoor party on a chilly fall night. He offered me his sweater. We danced in the bars, then wrapped ourselves in a blanket and watched the stars until the sun rose. We stayed up the entire night talking, and I knew then—he was my forever. I had never met a more graceful presence, and ten years later, I can still say that’s true through every season of our lives together. Then came the long distance—the ache of wanting to be in each other’s arms, the sacrifices, and the rocky road we walked side by side. It was raw, yet beautiful. Ryan and I wrote each other letters and became our own version of Romeo and Juliet. We called them&nbsp;“open when”&nbsp;letters—something to open whenever the other couldn’t answer, filled with love and reassurance. Those letters became our lifeline, a trust-building ritual that drew us closer than ever. My favorite part of our story is what came next: we weathered the waves of long distance and finally moved in together. We adopted two cats and our pup, Macie Mae, and life began to bloom in new ways. Since then, we’ve faced it all—COVID, job changes, loss, and mental health challenges—but through it all, Ryan has embodied every quality I wrote in that letter to God so many years ago, without ever knowing it. Today, ten years later, I am beyond grateful to be marrying not just my soulmate, but my best friend.

We are so excited to celebrate with you in Maine! Tarry A While Resort has a limited number of rooms on property, and those rooms have been reserved in advance for the wedding party and a small group of family members. If you have been assigned a room at Tarry-A-While, your reservation has already been arranged — please just call the property directly to confirm your stay. For all other guests, we have secured room blocks at two nearby locations to ensure everyone has a comfortable place to stay. We kindly recommend booking early, as availability in the&nbsp;area is limited. Thank you so much for your understanding — we can’t wait to celebrate with you!

Tarry A While Resort is the venue for the Rehearsal Dinner on Friday/Welcome Party and the Wedding the following day. The Inn and Cabins on the property have been pre-reserved for the bridal party and family. For those of you who have been designated a room in advance, please call the Inn to complete your reservation with your deposit. Please note that rates exclude Maine Lodging tax of 9% but do include all resort amenities, including use of canoes, kayaks, stand up paddleboards, bicycles, lawn games, the Social Hall with its pool and ping pong tables and outdoor fire pit.&nbsp;Rates for Inn guest rooms also include breakfast.&nbsp;Wifi is available in and around the main Inn and within Mainer Cottage only.&nbsp;&nbsp;Please see "Our Policies" page for additional information, including cancellation policies.&nbsp;​If you plan to bring or rent a boat, please call us to make a slip reservation for our dock.&nbsp;A separate dock fee applies based upon the size of your boat and length of your stay.&nbsp;Please call us for fees and additional information.

Located in Bridgton, Highland Lake Resort is steps from Highland Lake and a 5-minute walk from the Rufus Porter Museum. This beachfront motel offers a variety of amenities, including a private beach, sauna, fitness center, and arcade/game room. Guests can enjoy a meal at the Nectar Cafe or grab a snack at the coffee shop. Free Wi-Fi and self-parking are available, along with express check-in/check-out and laundry facilities. Each of the 22 air-conditioned rooms features a refrigerator, flat-screen TV with cable, pillowtop bed, and a private bathroom with complimentary toiletries and a hairdryer. Nearby attractions include the Civil War Monument (1 km) and Pondicherry Park (1. 3 km). The preferred airport is Auburn-Lewiston Municipal Airport (LEW), 47. 9 km away.

Highland Lake Resort

Guests won't be able to reserve on-line through their website. Please call the Manor directly and reference the Menegay/Downie wedding to reserve your room. There is a two night minimum and cancelation policy is 8 weeks before the wedding (June 22). We recommend reserving your room early as these rooms will be open to the public once summer is here.
