On September 29th, 2021, I went on a date with a very special boy for my 21st birthday. We had been friends for a year or so, and he had grown to be my best friend. However, I was SO nervous, because I realized if this date went well, there was a really good chance this would be the start of forever.
Getting to know each other as partners and grow up together was something that took care, work, and patience. It was so worth it.
Through these last two years, we have been able to really understand why we are dating, and what marriage means. We have worked to put the Lord at the head of our relationship, and learn how to look at our marriage through an eternal lense. While we are so happy that God has loaned us our worldly bodies and given us this time on earth, our main focus in this marriage is to use our time here to glorify Him, and help each other prepare for our eternal life.
I highly encourage you to read Ephesians 5:21-32, as Paul discusses marriage dynamic, and how wives and husbands are supposed to love. he calls husbands to love their wives, just as Christ loved the church. He calls in return for wives to respect their husbands and return this same love.
In the Book of Matthew, Jesus references Genesis 2:18 on marriage, and says:
“'Haven’t you read,' he replied, 'that at the beginning the Creator made them male and female, ' and said, ‘For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and the two will become one flesh?'
So they are no longer two, but one flesh. Therefore what God has joined together, let no one separate.” (Matthew 19:4-6)
Marriage is the joining of two people to become one. It is why we leave our families to start our own family. Be believe marriage is a gift from the Lord, and a sacred covenant. Our wedding day is to celebrate this covenant and commit ourselves to each other before the Lord.
As we look forward through our season of engagement, we try to be intentional with our time together on earth, and are using our wedding day to celebrate our union with you!
