You know the phrase, “if it’s meant to be, it’ll be.” That’s the first thing that comes to mind when looking at Sonia and Kyle’s love story. Their paths have crossed multiple times over the almost last ten years, but nothing was ever permanent as they were figuring out their lives and careers during and after college.


Their story truly began back in 2016 when Sonia and Kyle started their first year at Fanshawe College. Sonia was a Residence Advisor helping with move-in weekend when she first saw Kyle moving into the same residence building. Kyle’s mom asked Sonia a few questions, and Sonia introduced herself to Kyle—that was the start of their friendship. They shared a few mutual friends, so they often saw each other and attended parties together. Back then, they were just two friends enjoying their college experience.


In 2018, Sonia moved back home to Chatham to start her career, while Kyle stayed in London to begin his own. Over the next year, they lost touch.


In 2019, through mutual friends, Kyle ended up attending Sonia’s birthday party. Sonia was surprised to see him, as they hadn’t talked or seen each other in over a year. That night, Sonia and Kyle spent hours talking, laughing, and having the best time. Their friendship was rekindled.


In 2020, Sonia moved back to London to start a job at the hospital. For the first time in four years, Sonia and Kyle found themselves living in the same city again—the very city where they first met. They began dating in June of 2020.


Over the past few years, Sonia and Kyle have made countless new memories and traditions together. One of their favorite traditions is visiting the Toronto Christmas Market every winter, where Sonia loves taking pictures. In 2023, during their third visit to the market, Kyle proposed to Sonia under the heart display—a complete surprise to her.


Sonia and Kyle are excited to continue growing together, making new memories and traditions for the rest of their lives.
