David says our story started back in high school - woodshop to be exact. He says as soon as I walked in he knew. Few months later David expressed his feelings toward me. I, however, only wanted to be friends...
Here is where I say our story starts. A couple years later, we hung out quite a bit through a mutual friend. Soon David was inviting me to hang out separately. One night, David and I sat outside talking, telling stories, and getting to know one another until we saw the sun coming up through the trees. We decided it was probably best to go inside, get some snacks, and watch a movie. Next morning, Jolly Rancher wrappers everywhere. From then on we were together.
We decided to call October 1st (2019) our anniversary date because it would be easy to remember. We started our relationship with 10 hours of distance since we were both away at school. However, the long distance only lasted 8 months till covid hit. Then we spent the next year of our relationship living across the street from each other, sometimes staying in the same house. From there, David got a job in Appleton and we moved to Wisconsin.
We lived in Wisconsin for just over a year. This was our first encounter living together. I learned that David likes the the door open - smelly! David learned I can't pan fry chicken - apartment smelled like smoke for two days and a neighbor had to help me turn the smoke detectors off. We learned Murphy lives for chasing the geese in the park across from our apartment. Wisconsin was fun but we knew we wanted to get back home and clean up David's house. In 2022, I graduated and David got an offer to work in Esky.
After two years back home, we were able to update the house by adding a little bit of a women's touch (and removing the bikes from in the living room). I now have David's old bedroom as a big walk in closet. We also added to our small family, a cat. Now at dinner we have Murphy and Max begging. We have been enjoying life back home as a family of four.
Which bring us to the engagement. It was David's birthday (December 10th, 2024) and I was running late from work. We were going to go out for dinner when I got home and I was hangry. When I got home I was ambushed by Murphy and Max wanting attention, as well as David asking for help with putting up some Christmas lights on the balcony. After I snapped about being hungry, David was still trying to rush me upstair for "help". When we finally got upstairs (with Murph following), I was looking at the lights complaining that he put them up fine last year. However, when I turned around he had a sign, lights, roses, and was down on one knee. I couldn't tell you what he said. I saw him and the ring and blacked out - I remember asking repeatedly if he was serious and if this was real. David claim's he asked "Can you give me the best birthday present ever and marry me?" The next thing I know, he was bring out a bottle of champagne and telling me everything about his planning. David picked out the most gorgeous ring, and he got the size perfect without me even know what size I wear. After five years together, I had no inkling of him asking me that night but it was an easy yes.
