Our Story

Picture of Our Story

Jake Swyers. Side affects may include: blindness, headaches, dizziness. Symptoms caused by a great, future husband. Jake, a lowly women's volleyball practice player, and Sophie Riemersma, a star outside hitter, started talking after he decided to hit a volleyball across the court at an unsuspecting Sophie. Being the gentleman he is, Jake asked for her number and apologized for hurting her. After months of flirtatious texting between the two, Jake finally worked up the courage to ask her out on a date.

Jake and Sophie met each other at Miami University in 2019, but it took an injury for them to notice each other. The first date started with the volleyball coach catching them out at lunch and ended with Sophie thinking they would just be friends. It was filled with so much awkwardness and poor eye contact from Jake, that Sophie thought he just wasn’t interested in her. She was so sure of his feelings that she ended up going out with another guy the next day. But in reality, Jake was just so nervous to date such a star on campus. Luckily for him, Sophie agreed to another date.

Fast forward: 3 years into a relationship that had a rough start, but has continued in love ever since. In August of 2022, Jake surprised Sophie with the news that he purchased a lot where the construction of their future home would begin. A few months later, Jake had a heart of roses arranged and spray painted “will you marry me?” into the dirt on the lot of their new home. Jake got down on one knee and Sophie said yes to experiencing all the great side effects of Jake for the rest of her life.
