Jake, a lowly women's volleyball practice player, and Sophie Riemersma, a star outside hitter, started talking after he decided to hit a volleyball across the court at an unsuspecting Sophie. Being the gentleman he is, Jake asked for her number and apologized for hurting her. After months of flirtatious texting between the two, Jake finally worked up the courage to ask her out on a date.

Jake and Sophie met each other at Miami University in 2019, but it took an injury for them to notice each other. Fast forward: 3 years into a relationship that had a rough start, but has continued in love ever since. In August of 2022, Jake surprised Sophie with the news that he purchased a lot where the construction of their future home would begin. A few months later, Jake had a heart of roses arranged and spray painted “will you marry me?” into the dirt on the lot of their new home.
