We met through a mutual friend in 1997 at the College of Staten Island. I lived in Brooklyn while Jose lived in Staten Island. Throughout the years we would spend countless hours on the phone asking each other for advice, had countless memories together and at times we wouldnt speak for some time yet picked up right where we left off. We went through different paths during the years but continued to remain friends. They say the best relationship are those that begin as friends. On September 13th, 2021 Jose asked me to go out to dinner and we discussed our feelings for each other and we began dating. The years of friendship helped us build a connection unlike any other.
I would not allow another year to go by without letting Sophy know I wanted to spend the rest of my life with her. On July 1st, 2023, I proposed to Sophy by the Verrazzano Bridge, the same bridge that connected us in 1997.
After 26 years of friendship our love story is the true definition of what is meant to be will be and timing is always right.
