Los Angeles is Eric and Steph's home and they have so many favorite spots they wish they could take you to personally over the wedding weekend. But since they'll likely be busy with post-wedding stress, here are some of their favorite spots and things to do in the city for while you're in town.
Hiking
LA is home to so many amazing hikes. If you're looking for a short and sweet hike with lots of LA landmarks try the Ferndell to Mount Hollywood Summit Loop in Griffith Park via Ferndell Road. Really any trail in Griffith Park up and around the observatory is a win (and it's close to their house). The Trails Cafe in one of their favorite spots in all of Los Angeles. Get there early before they run out of baked goods.
If you're looking for less elevation and some beautiful sights (including the Hollywood sign), try the Hollywood Reservoir Trailhead Loop via Weidlake Dr
You can find other amazing hikes in Topanga, Malibu, and up near Pasadena.
Frogtown / LA River
One of Eric and Steph's favorite spots is the Frogtown neighborhood / The LA River bike path (not just for bikes!)
Frogtown is a beautiful area with a silly name nestled against the LA River. There you'll find a walkable bike path that leads to many of their favorite weekend spots including:
Just What I Kneaded.
Incredible bakery in LA. Great vegetarian and vegan options that often are better than the non-vegan stuff. Best cinnamon rolls in the world.
Frogtown Brewery.
Huge outdoor space, good beer, and always a food truck parked outside.
Waxpaper.
Some of the best sandwiches you can find. All named after NPR podcast hosts.
Dining
Here's a list of Steph and Eric's favorite restaurants in LA
- Old Place (Malibu) - Steak sandwiches attached to a winery in the malibu mountains. Peacocks roam the area freely. Unbeatable atmosphere.
- Smokehouse (Burbank) - Classic Hollywood steakhouse.
- Hi Tops (Los Feliz) - Some of the best bar food you'll have.
- Budonoki (Virgil) - Asian small plates. 11/10
- Wirtshaus (La Brea) - German! Get the schnitzel!
- La Pergolatta (Los Feliz) - Great homemade Italian.
- Alcove (Los Feliz) - American food.
- Encanto (Los Feliz) - Solid Mexican, $10 margaritas all day.
- Loupiotte Kitchen (Los Feliz) - French breakfast spot. A lady in our neighborhood owns it, she's lovely, the food is lovely.
Breweries of note
- Paperback, Benny Boy, Highland Park Brewery, All Seasons, Angel City, Arts District, Boomtown, there are so many you mostly can't go wrong.
Universal Halloween Horror Nights
Universal Studios will be hosting their Halloween Horror Nights Leading up to the wedding. This is a genuinely scary fun time! Please be cautious bringing small children as it is scary!!!
DTLA
Downtown LA is still kind of a work in progress, but there's still a lot of fun breweries, restaurants, and communal spaces to hang out in. If you want to walk around and see all of that, try heading to the Arts District.
