As most of you know, we are in the process of being filmed for an HGTV show called Building Paradise which will air in Spring 2024.
As our honored guests, you may be captured on film during our ceremony, wedding, etc. We want everyone to enjoy themselves so if you do not want to be filmed please let us know so the film crew can make the appropriate adjustments post production.
What will the weather be like?
In January, it is the dry season here so expect temperatures to range between low of 24 and high of 29 degrees daily
what clothing should I bring?
Breathable clothing in as little material as possible (LOL), swim clothes, sandals, clothing for hiking if that's your thing (beautiful jungle hikes here), water shoes, etc. Temperatures don't really cool down that much in the evening so leave your jeans and pants at home! (except your one airport outfit)
Is my hotel all inclusive?
Probably not!! Costa Rica is definitely not your typical beach vacation. There is only one all-inclusive hotel in Jaco and it's the Best Western. Jaco is made up of mostly airbnb and residential style accommodations. However we have listed some hotel options in the travel tab for those of you who want those amenities.
What's the currency situation?
The local currency is the Costa Rican colones. However every vendor, restaurant, and even fruit stands accepts US dollars. Credit cards are also accepted at most restaurants and stores. ATMs are also very convenient, you can withdraw local and USD with your bank cards.
Do I need to learn Spanish?
It's always good to learn a few phrases in the local language. However English is spoken A LOT in Jaco. Being a tourist town you can always rely on one person in every store or restaurant to speak English and other multiple languages.
Will we be on TV?
So we will be capturing the wedding as part of our show and that will include some of the guests. You will be asked to sign release forms in the event you are on the footage. If you do not want to be showed your image will be masked on the footage.
How will I get to Jaco?
Jaco is 1 hour and 30 minutes away from SJO airport.
There are a few options available, Uber and taxis at the airport, or if you go to our Travel section we have listed some options for airport transportation.
