Booking your flight
We highly recommend booking your flight sooner rather than later! Booking your flight at the very least 6 months before the wedding is strongly suggested. The longer you wait, the higher the fares will go up!
You will want to fly to Athens and connect by plane to the island of Santorini. Taking a plane from Athens to Santorini is an affordable and the most hassle free option to getting to the island. Consider spending a night or a long layover in Athens as there are so many sites to see in Athens relatively close to the airport.
If you are coming from somewhere else in Europe there are direct flights from other destinations for ex. Naples. Italy has a non stop flight to Santorini along with many other European countries.
US Citizens visiting Greece in 2024
New Visa Requirement -
There is a new VISA requirement for non European nationals starting in 2024
We recommend completing this application at the same time you book your flight to get it out of the way - this VISA costs 7 Euros

Passport -
You must have a valid US Passport to visit Greece
If you need to Renew or Replace a passport do that ASAP!
Transportation in Santorini
Rental Car -
There are rental car agencies in Santorini that you can book directly with online. They have your main rental car agencies like; Avis, Sixt, National, Budget, InterRent, Thrifty, Hertz, Alamo and many more. If you have status with any of these agencies here in the US it is worth looking into booking with them as your rate might be cheaper.
For cheap rental cars I researched; RentalCars or KAYAK - the pick up is preset to Santorini airport in these links
We recommend getting a small car since it is hard driving on the island's narrow gravel roads. Most car rental options are manual, so if you cannot drive manual expect for an automatic car to be more expensive.
The longest drive on the island is about 40mins.
Taxis -
From Fira to the Airport is a 10 mins drive. The taxi shouldn’t charge you more than 20 euros for such a route
There are no taxi meters in the taxis and fares are fixed. So, always ask in advance what the price will be. If you want to call a taxi then you need to call : +30 22860 22555
UBER and Lyft do not exist in Santorini
(it’s only available in Athens)
Local Buses -
The bus ticket costs 2.00-2.50 euros (depending on your destination) – check Santorini Buses Timetables here
Fira Main Bus Station on Google Maps
All local Buses have Fira town as the main hub. All buses depart from and finish their route there.
What to pack for Santorini's early June weather
The island in early June's weather ranges from a low of highs 60s at night and low 80s during the day.
To be a little more specific based on research; expect a low of ~69 degrees and a high of ~81 degrees.
Clothing -
A few light sweaters, linen pants/shirts/long sleeves, shorts, swimsuits/cover ups and mainly light breathable clothing are what we would recommend.
Luggage; any suitcase larger than 20 inches will likely need to be checked at the gate so you might as well travel with the larger suitcase and check your bag.
Footwear -
Walking in San Torini is tough because of uneven coble stone streets and dusty gravel roads. Sneakers, flats, open toe sandals, and heels/dress shoes for the wedding are what we recommend.
We will provide flipflops for dancing at the wedding reception.
Welcome Party is all white attire -
You might consider wearing white linen pants/shirts/shorts/dresses. Any white dress (maxi or short), jumpsuit, collared/polo shirt. Footwear options could be flats, loafers, heels and dressy sandals.
Rehearsal Dinner is semi formal attire -
Semi formal attire could be;
For Women: Maxi, midi or cocktail dresses
Dress pants and skirts with a blouse or jumpsuits.
For Men: Collared short or long sleeve shirts or polos
Khaki, linen or dress pants.
Footwear options could be flats, loafers, heels or dressy sandals
Wedding guest attire is Formal; Black Tie Optional
For Women: Dressy/formal Midi dresses and heels
Floor length gowns are strongly welcome
Consider a light shawl/sweater as it can get cool at night
Flipflops for dancing will be provided
For Men: Sports coat or a Blazer with dress pants and dress shoes or loafers. Tuxedos are strongly welcome
