Q + A - Travel

The Trip

Are there COVID-19 travel restrictions in Thailand?

As of late 2022, Thailand has dropped all entry requirements for tourists. However, there are some public spaces that strongly suggest using masks when possible.

Where/what areas are we traveling through in Thailand?

Bangkok, Krabi, and the Phi Phi Islands.

Do I have to stick with the group the whole time?

Nope! You are free to join or skip as many planned tours/outings as you want. However, we of course urge you to join our scheduled wedding events throughout the trip.

How do I pay you?

As outlined on the 'payment' portion of this website, we will accept payment via Zelle (preferred), Venmo (@stephanie-ivy), or cash. Reach out with any issues or concerns.

What airport are we flying into?

BKK (Suvarnabhumi Airport).

What is the baggage policy on Singapore Airlines (to and from Thailand)?

For checked baggage: Economy passengers are allowed 2 pieces of luggage, up to 50 lbs each (additional fees apply for additional pieces or if luggage exceeds weight limit). For carry-on baggage: 1 personal item and 1 luggage that must not exceed a total of 45 inches (ex. 22 x 14 x 9 inches is a standard carry-on luggage size).

Will we need to fly again to get to Krabi?

Yes, we will be traveling together to KBV (Krabi airport) via Air Asia.

What is the baggage policy on Air Asia (to and from krabi)

For checked baggage: Economy passengers are allowed 20 kg of luggage. There'll be excess baggage fees if the weight of your bags exceed your allowance. However, you can combine your checked baggage allowance with other guests travelling under the same booking number. For carry-on baggage: You are allowed to bring onboard two (2) pieces of bag as part of your cabin baggage allowance with the total weight of both items not exceeding 7kg. One (1) piece of cabin bag must not exceed 56cm x 36cm x 23cm including the handles, wheels and side pockets. This bag must be able to fit in the overhead compartment in the aircraft cabin. You may also carry one (1) piece of laptop bag, handbag, backpack or any other small bag which must not exceed 40cm x 30cm x 10cm. This item must be able to fit under the seat in front of you.

What will the weather be like?

It is hot out there. the sun is strong and the humidity is tough. be prepared.

What is the currency in Thailand? Do I need to bring cash?

The currency in Thailand is the Thai Baht (THB). Cash is king and we recommend bringing it. You may find money exchanges here locally or you can exchange your U.S. dollars when you land in Thailand. Usually, exchange rates are better in Thailand.

How much cash should I bring?

That is entirely up to you based on how much you'd like to spend and how long you plan to stay. Your tours, accommodations, and transit fees will be paid in advance so that opens up an opportunity for you to spend your money elsewhere. Thailand is not an expensive country, but consider how much you'd like to spend on food, drinks, shopping, or other experiences (such as renting water sports equipment, souvenirs, going out for the night, etc). For reference, $600/person is doable but frugal.

My passport will be expiring that year. Is that an issue?

As long as your passport is not expiring within 6 months of our travel dates, you will be fine. Since our travel time is in January, your passport must be valid until at least July 2024. To avoid issues, get it renewed as soon as possible. You may do so as early as 9 months out from your expiration date.

How can I get around Bangkok?

The modes of transportation are seemingly endless in Bangkok - You can take a taxi, a tuk tuk, a ferry, the BTS Skytrain, and more.

Can I use Uber/Lyft out there?

Unfortunately, Uber/Lyft does not exist in Thailand. However, there is a similar rideshare app called Grab. We’ve used it before and it works great! Only difference is you can choose to pay in cash in person at the end of your ride instead of through the app.

How can I get around the islands?

Where we’re going, there are no vehicles, so walking is the way to go!

Can I bring a portable charger/power bank on the plane?

Yes, you can bring a power bank, but only in your carry-on luggage - They are not allowed in checked bags (and labels must be visible on your device). Be sure your power bank does not exceed 100 Wh or 32,000 mAh or it may be confiscated by TSA (we’ve had this happen before at a layover in China).

Do I need an adapter/converter for my electronics in Thailand?

In Bangkok, your plugs should work with hotel outlets without any issues. However, the island plugs can be a bit trickier regarding voltage and a converter might help here. Just be vigilant and take note if your plug is rapidly heating up. Below are the plug types used in Thailand:
