Central North Carolina, also known as the Piedmont, is the region of North Carolina located between the Mountains to the west and the Coastal Plain to the east. It is the most populous region of the state. Nearby Raleigh, the state capital, is an early example in the United States of a planned city. Following the American Revolution, the area was chosen as the site of the capital of North Carolina.

This nearby State Park has a beautiful lake and lots of hiking trails, including a portion of the Mountains-to-Sea State Trail, as well as one of the premier mountain bike trail systems in the Triangle area.
